Orr began his career in the
Western Hockey League, playing for the Swift Current Broncos, then the Kamloops Blazers. On
September 19,
2001, Orr signed as an undrafted free agent with the
Boston Bruins. He continued to play in the WHL for a couple of seasons, then joined the Bruins' American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins, in
2003. That same season Orr made his NHL debut with the Bruins, playing a single game before being sent back down to the minors. Following the
2004-
05 NHL Lockout, Orr was waived and picked up by the
New York Rangers on
November 29, 2005. In his second season with the Rangers, Orr was suspended for five games. During a December 31,
2006 game, Orr placed a crosscheck to the face of the reining Rookie of the Year winner
Alexander Ovechkin. Although Ovechkin was not injured, the NHL considered the hit a reckless act and he served the suspension.
