  • About Holy Cross

Holy Cross follows in the Jesuit tradition of education and was founded in 1843 as a boys school named after the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The college held its first commencement in 1849. The school quickly began to grow, but in 1952 a fire destroyed the school. With the commitment of the school president, Father Anthony F. Ciampi and Bishop John B. Fitzpatrick, the college was rebuilt and opened for a second time in 1853. A charter was granted to the school in 1865 allowing students to receive degrees. The school is currently co-educational.Holy Cross: Holy Cross History and Traditions
