At the conclusion of the college football season, the NCAA Division-I FBS teams that have at least six wins and a non-losing record are eligible to be selected to play in one of over 30 bowl games. Since 1998, the Bowl Championship Series has determined a national champion by selecting the top two points-getters in the BCS standings for its BCS Championship Game.http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819597
The match-ups for all 34 bowl games were revealed on ESPN on December 5, 2010. As the top two teams in the BCS standings, the Auburn Tigers and Oregon Ducks were selected to play for the championship.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5168379
Additionally the Arkansas Razorbacks, from the Southeastern Conference, and the Ohio State Buckeyes, as an at-large team, were selected to play in the Sugar Bowl. The Orange Bowl selected the Virginia Tech Hokies as the Atlantic Coast Conference representative to play against the at-large team of the Stanford Cardinal. As the Big 12 Conference champion, the Oklahoma Sooners were selected to play in the Fiesta Bowl against the Connecticut Huskies. To round out the BCS bowl games, the Wisconsin Badgers earned a selection in the Rose Bowl as the top team in the Big Ten Conference. While the Rose Bowl would also feature a team from the Pacific-10 Conference, Oregon was selected for the Championship Game so the TCU Horned Frogs were named as the replacement.http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions

2010 BCS National Championship Game
As college football does not hold a traditional playoff, the top two teams in the BCS standings at the end of the season are invited to the BCS National Championship Game to play for the title. In the 2009-10 season, those teams included the Texas Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama prevailed in the game, winning the championship by a score of 37 to 21.
