Born in Scotland, Colin McRae began driving at age 14 and started to compete just a few years later. McRae was the British Rally Champion in 1991 and 1992. In 1995, he won the World Rally Championship Drivers' title. McRae also won the World Rally Championship Constructors' title three years in a row from 1995 to 1997. During his career, McRae competed in a total of 146 rally races with 25 wins and 42 podium finishes.
