British actor Colin Firth has starred in a variety of TV and film projects. His performance in A Single Man was nominated for an Oscar in 2010, and his performance in The King's Speech won him a Golden Globe in 2011. Other work includes his much-celebrated performance in the 1995 BBC miniseries adaptation of the Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice. Career Background
Firth studied acting at the Drama Centre in North London and appeared in a variety of plays on the London stage. He started working in film in the late 1980s, including a role in the Milos Forman film Valmont, adapted from the same play as the film Dangerous Liasons. He gained international fame after playing Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, a role which he spoofed in the Bridget Jones films. (The fictional Bridget Jones character is obsessed with Firth's performance as Darcy).
Other notable Firth films include The Importance of Being Earnest, an Oscar Wilde adaptation in which he starred alongside Rupert Everett, ensemble romantic comedy Love Actually and a motion-capture performance in the Robert Zemeckis animated film version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
