The Coke Zero 400 race is one of the NASCAR Sprint Cup stock car races and it is held at the Daytona International Speedway. It has been held annually since 1959. The race consists of 160 laps and has a total distance of 400 miles. The Coke Zero 400 is together with the races AMP Energy 500, Aaron's 499 and Daytona 500 the only four races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series to run with restrictor plates, which purpose is to limit the top speed and increase safety. http://www.allleftturns.com/nascar-races/aarons-499
Background
In the early years the Coke Zero 400 was known as the Firecracker 250, but the name was changed to Firecracker 400 in 1963. The race kept its name until 1985 when it was sponsored by Pepsi, and then changed the name to Pepsi Firecracker 400 and later on to Pepsi 400. From 2008 the sponsor has been the Coca Cola Company and therefore the name changed yet again. http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/features/07/01/enterprise.inside.nascar.daytona.july.race/index.html
