Life and Career
Coco Chanel was born in a poorhouse in France and worked her way up to being one of the most influential fashion designers of all time. She was born in poverty and at the age of 12 her mother died leaving her and her siblings with their father. Her father left to work and she went to a Catholic orphanage where she was taught to be a seamstress. This was the beginning of Coco Chanels career as a fashion designer. Aside from all of her amazing clothing and accessories, Coco Chanel was the first designer to have a fragrance name after her. Chanel No. 5 is popular and a widely sought after perfume. Time Magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. She was the only member of her profession to receive this honor. Coco Chanel never married, though she had many affairs. She never had any children of her own.
