Cocktail Rings

    • Became popular in the 1940s
    • Sometimes worn during the Prohibition to flaunt the law and bring attention to illegal drinking
    • Current trends say "The bigger, the better"
    • Quality faux rings can cost up to $500 USD, while rings made with real jewels can cost millions
  • Cocktail rings are over-sized rings set with precious, semi-precious or faux stones.
  • Real or Fake?

Earlier versions of the cocktail ring were made with diamonds for those who could afford them, or less expensive stones such as garnets, peridot, blue topaz or amethysts. Even costume jewelry of the time was so well-made, that only an experienced jeweler could tell the difference.

Today, the majority of cocktail or dinner party rings are made with rhinestones or semi-precious stones. Coveted rings are typically large, opulent, and dazzling to the eye.
