Cocaine is an addictive stimulant originating in the leaves of the coca plant, found primarily in South America. When used as a recreational drug, it is most frequently snorted, but can also be injected or smoked in the form of crack.

Effects
Cocaine has powerful effects on the human central nervous system. Recreational users experience euphoria and increased energy. The "comedown" from the drug includes depression, paranoia and restlessness. These effects can be amplified if the drug is used frequently.
Health Issues
Cocaine is extremely addictive and can cause great pain in users who are unable to experience the drug at a regular rate. Frequent use can increase the chance of becoming impotent or developing diseases of the kidneys or connective tissue. The National Institute on Drug Abuse estimates that over 6 million Americans used some form of cocaine in 2006.
