  • A cobbler is a baked fruit dessert with a crumbly or biscuit crust topping. Cobbler-type desserts include Betties and buckles. Buckles often have a cake-like base, while Betties are layered with crumbs and fruits. Cobblers are also known by names such as tart, pie, torte, pandowdy, grunt, slump, buckles, crisp and croustade. Cobber is not a fancy dessert just a great tasting way to use all kinds of fruits and berries.
  • How to make Cherry Cobbler

    Making the filling:

    1. Blanch 4 cups of fresh cherries for 30 seconds to remove the pits.
    2. Layer the cherries in the bottom of a greased baking pan with 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 tablespoon flour.
    3. Bake in a 425 degrees Fahrenheit oven for 10 minutes.

    Making the crust:

    1. Mix 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 3 tablespoons brown sugar in a bowl.
    2. Cut 4 tablespoons unsalted butter into the flour mixture until crumbly. Add in 2/3 cup buttermilk to make a soft dough.
    3. Spoon the dough over the top of the fruit mixture and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon brown sugar.
    4. Bake in a 425 degrees Fahrenheit oven for 20 minutes.
    5. Serve warm topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
