Football coach Jim Johnson serves as the defensive coordinators for the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League.

In May of 2009, Johnson took a leave of absence from the Eagles to undergo chemotherapy. He previously announced in January of 2009 that he was beginning treatment for melanoma, which has confined him to a wheelchair.ESPN.com: Eagles' Johnson Undergoing Chemo

On January 29, 2009, Johnson was diagnosed with melanoma in his spine. He initially opted to continue coaching while undergoing treatment, despite the fact that the disease had confined him to a wheel chair. The cancer began on his skin and was first noticed in 2001, before moving to his spine in the years since. He is able to walk with the help of a cane, but has pain in the area of the cancer.
