CMT sponsors Music Awards annually and televises the announcement and presentation of the Belt Buckle award. The show began in 2002 and was first called the Flameworthy Awards. CMT Music Award winners are selected by fan votes through the CMT.com website. Each year CMT releases preliminary nominees which are then voted on by fans to determine the winners. The Video of the Year award is voted on during the actual show while voting for other categories ends the day before the show.
