Clinton RFK Assassination Comment

  • In an interview in South Dakota on May 23, 2008, Hillary Clinton commented that "we all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California," in a response to a question as to why she is remaining in the primary race.

Her statement was widely interpreted as an implication that the possibility of an assassination of Barack Obama was a reason she was remaining in the race to be the Democratic candidate in the 2008 Presidential Election.

The comment drew a quick response from the Barack Obama Campaign. A representative of Obama stated that Clinton's comment was "unfortunate" and had "no place in the campaign."

Hillary Clinton issued an apology shortly afterwards, stating that she only intended to give historical examples of Democratic primaries that continued into June.

Clinton also said that she in no way meant any offense to the Kennedy family.
