  • Former professional hockey goaltender Clint Malarchuk played in the National Hockey League for the Buffalo Sabres, Quebec Nordiques and Washington Capitals. He has served as a goaltending coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets since 2006.
  • Neck Injury

    During a March 22, 1989, game, Malarchuk's neck was cut by a skate blade, slicing his internal carotid artery. Malarchuk nearly died in the incident and needed over 300 stitches to close the wound. The NHL immediately instituted a new equipment policy requiring all goaltenders to wear protective neck gear.
  • Accidental Shooting

    In October of 2008, Malarchuk accidentally shot himself in the chin with a .22-caliber rifle. He was reportedly holding the rifle between his legs when it discharged.
