In 2010 the Cleveland Cavaliers will be looking for their third NBA Finals appearance and first NBA Championship in their 40-year history.
The Cleveland Cavaliers was one of the NBA expansion franchises in 1970 along with two other teams, the Buffalo Braves (now the L.A. Clippers) and the Portland Trailblazers. As tends to be the case with expansion franchises, the Cavs had losing seasons in the early years before they could build a successful team. In 1976, they would reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time. Their first and only NBA Finals appearance occurred in the 2006-07 season. http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/history/storm_passed.html
Background
Ever since a 17-65 record in 2002-03, the Cavs have built their team around Lebron James, the No. 1 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. The team made the playoffs in the last four consecutive seasons. Last year, they had a league-best winning record of 66-16 but were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Orlando Magic.http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CLE/ With a strong start to the current season, the team will battle for the top playoff seed again. The 6-time All Star and last years' NBA MVP, LeBron James, will try to take the Cavs to the NBA Finals and win a championship ring.
