The Cleveland Cavaliers, or Cavs for short, are a professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavs began playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1970. In 1970, the Cavs adopted their first team jersey, choosing wine and gold as their colors. The Cavaliers wore gold at home and wine on the road. The jerseys were changed to orange and blue in the mid-1980s, and to black, blue, and orange in the mid-1990s.
In the 2003-2004 season the Cavs returned to wine and gold, which is their current jersey today. The Cavaliers current home jersey is white, with the word "Cavaliers" in wine lettering with gold trim on the front, the player's name in wine lettering with gold trim on the back, the player's numbers in navy blue, and wine and gold trim on the sides, complete with white socks and shoes. The team's standard road uniform is wine-colored, with the word "Cleveland," the player's name, and the player's numbers all in white lettering with gold trim, as well as white and gold trim on the sides, complete with black socks and shoes. The team's third/alternate uniform is navy blue with the word "Cleveland", the player's name, and the player's numbers all in white lettering with gold trim, as well as a wine, gold, and navy blue checkerboard trim, complete with white socks and shoes. The checkerboard trim is a tribute to the original Cavaliers jerseys from the 70s.http://www.cavshistory.com/images/jerseys/large/2003-home.png
