  • Early History

The team was originally founded as part of the All-America Football Conference in 1946. They dominated the league their four and only years in the AAFC, winning the championship each season. In 1950, they entered the National Football League, winning the championship their inaugural season. They returned to the championship game six of the next seven seasons, winning again in 1954 and 1955. After a few seasons of failing to reach the post season, the Browns won their fourth and most recent NFL Championship in 1964. In the years since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger, the Browns have only reached as far as the AFC Championship Game, which they have lost three times.
