Their best showing was in 1979, when they reached the regional finals. Perhaps the best player in school history was Horace Grant, a power forward who won the 1987 ACC Player of the Year award. Other players that went on to successful NBA careers include Tree Rollins, Larry Nance, Randy Mahaffey, Dale Davis, Elden Campbell and Greg Buckner.
