Clayton E. Kershaw graduated High School from Highland Park in 2006 becoming the schools all time leader in wins with 38. As a senior, he went 12-0 with a 0.77 Earned Run Average and was selected as the USA Today High School Baseball Player of Year and Gatorade National Player of the Year for baseball. Baseball America ranked him as the No. 6 overall prospect and the No. 1 high schools pitching prospect.

The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted him in the first round, 7th overall in the draft. In 2008, Kershaw joined the Los Angeles Dodgers from Double-A Jacksonville. On May 25th, he made his debut with the team, becoming the fourth youngest starting pitcher in Los Angeles Dodger history at 20 years, 65 days.
