Claudio Vargas is a Dominican Major League Baseball pitcher with the New York Mets organization.
Vargas originally signed as an undrafted amateur free agent with the Florida Marlins on August 25, 1995. Still in the minors, he was traded by the Marlins on July 11, 2002 to the former Montreal Expos.
On April 26, 2003, Vargas was called up to make his MLB debut with the Expos. He played 23 games in 2003 with the Expos, pitching 114 innings and finishing with a career best 4.34 earned runs average. Vargas stayed with the Expos for the full 2004 season, playing in 45 games and pitching in 118.3 innings.
Shortly after the Expos became the Washington Nationals in 2005, Vargas was waived, then signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 3, 2005. He continued with the Diamondbacks through the 2006 season, after which he was traded on November 25, 2006 to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Days before the start of the 2008 season, Vargas was released by the Brewers and signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets on April 10, 2008.
