Claudette Yamin, mother of American Idol finalist Elliot Yamin, passed away on March 31, 2008 at the age of 65 in a Virginia hospital. While the cause of her death is unknown at this time, Yamin suffered a series of health problems after breaking her hip. Yamin told newspapers in February that she moved from Richmond, Virginia to Los Angeles in 2007 to "see if I could rebuild my health" and traveled from state to state to see her son perform. In an interview, Yamin told the Times Dispatch, "When Elliott's around, it's like a whirlwind. I couldn't be more excited if it was me."
