Claire McCaskill is a United States Senator from Missouri. McCaskill is one of only two Democratic senators, along with Russ Feingold, to denounce the use of Earmarks. She is a strong supporter of Barack Obama for president and is actively campaigning for him.
Campaign Issues
Her campaign in 2006 focused primarily on raising the national minimum wage. Since taking office, she has lobbied for better veteran health care and benefits management and also opposed the Department of Defense on, what she has called, "loose spending" and budget irresponsibility. She has also been a strong and public supporter of the Barack Obama campaign for president.
Michal J. Fox Controversy
During her 2006 campaign for senate, a television ad featuring Michael J. Fox in support of Stem Cell Research and McCaskill aired in Missouri. The ad attracted extensive criticism from McCaskill's opposition, most notably from Rush Limbaugh who stated on his radio show that, in the ad, Fox was "moving all around and shaking" and that his physical appearance was "purely an act."
