Circumcision is a controversial surgical procedure to remove the foreskin from the penis. Fast Facts:
1. Latin for caedere: to cut and circum: around.
2. Usually performed 1 or 2 days after birth
3. Performed on Jewish boys at 8 days old
4. Analgesic can reduce pain of procedure
5. May prevent urinary tract infections
6. May help prevent HIV
7. Estimated 30% of men worldwide are circumcised
