Chun-Li

Chun-Li is a character from the fighting video game franchise Street Fighter developed by the japanese company Capcom. She first appeared in Street Fighter II: The World Warriors released in 1991 on arcade. She was created and designed by Akira Yasuda, also known as "Akiman".

She is known to be the first female character to be included in a fighting game. Chun-Li is the only fighter, along with Ryu and Ken, to appear in all the games of the Street Fighter series.

Chun-Li can be seen in two live movies: Street Fighter: The Movie in 1994 and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li in 2009. She was respectively portrayed by Ming-Na and Kristin Kreuk. She also appears in Street Fighter: The Animated Movie and other Street Fighter animation series.

Background

In Street Fighter 2, Chun-Li is an Interpol agent who is looking for M. Bison, the man responsible for the death of her father. Because Shadaloo, M. Bison's criminal organization, is sponsoring the World Warriors tournament, she joins the fight to seek revenge and bring M. Bison to justice. In the Street Fighter storyline, she finally defeats him and retire as an agent to teach martial arts to children.

Even though not as strong as her opponents, Chun-Li finds her balance with a good speed and agility. Her most famous moves are the Lightning Kick and the Spinning Bird Kick.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

In 2009, Andrzej Bartkowiak directed the second live movie based on the Street Fighter game franchise. The movie follows the story of Chun-Li looking for the murderer of her father, M. Bison, portrayed by Neal McDonough. She sets foot in Bangkok, Thailand, where she has to defeat M. Bison's henchmen and bring down the criminal organization of Shadaloo.

The movie got a 4% on the movie website Rotten Tomatoes, with two positive critics on 54.
