April 24, 2008: Harborside Elementary School in Chula Vista, California was put on lockdown following a standoff with a robbery suspect. The lockdown was lifted at 1:30 p.m. The suspect claims to have a bomb, and has threatened to detonate it.
Standoff
Police say the man in the standoff robbed two banks, Washington Mutual and Union Bank, in San Ysidro. After the robbery, police chased the suspect who was driving a red Ford Explorer. The chase stopped at 1140 Trenton Ave. in Chula Vista, and the suspect refused to get out of the car. Detective Gary Hassen said the suspect threatened to kill himself. Police say the suspect also claims to have a bomb.
