Chuck Berry is widely considered to be one of the best American Rock and Roll musicians of all time. He is a singer, songwriter and guitarist, and is accomplished at all three. In addition to his innovative style of guitar playing, he developed a flair for showmanship that resulted in his trademark duck walk and near-splits, which he continued to perform well into his seventies. He's eighty three now, and for thirty dollars he can still be heard at the Blueberry Hill music club in St. Louis, but advance tickets are advised, since he still sells out every show.http://www.blueberryhill.com/http://interact.stltoday.com/blogzone/the-blender/the-blender/2010/05/chuck-berry-makes-rolling-stones-to-do-list/
After a troubled childhood in St. Louis, Missouri that culminated in a conviction for armed robbery, Berry began playing in clubs around the area and was influenced by the songs of Muddy Waters. After meeting Waters in Chicago, Berry signed with Chess Records and released the hit single "Maybellene".
With the release of "Roll Over Beethoven" in 1956 (it eventually hit #29 on the charts), Berry began to gain fame as one of the new breed known as Rock n' Roll musicians. During the next few years Berry released a string of top-10 hits, including "Johnny B. Goode", "Rock and Roll Music" and "Sweet Little Sixteen".
Berry's influence on Rock n' Roll was substantial and he is often credited with bridging the gap between Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll. Some of the artists that cite Berry as an influence include The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jerry Garcia and George Thorogood.http://www.chuckberry.com/
