To Fetch a Doll
- Land near the Keeper's Dome. Enter the dome.
- Head through the dome until you reach the sleeping Nu. He is right outside the door to the room where you found the Epoch. Talk to him. He tells you to get a doll that looks like Crono. He recommends you talk to Norstein Bekkler.
- Exit the Keeper's Dome. Board the Epoch. Take the Epoch to 1,000 A.D.
- Land the Epoch near Leene Square. Enter the Leene Square.
- YouTube: The Crono Doll! Death Peak Mountain! (Time: 8:23)
- Walk all the way to the right and enter the purple tent with a skull as its doorway. This is Norstein Bekkler's Tent of Horrors.
- Bekkler forces you to play a game to win the doll. You'll get the doll regardless of whether or not you lose, but the longer you stay in the game, the less it will cost. To play the game you first need 40 Silver Points. If you do not have this, then play games around the fairgrounds to earn them.
- TIP: A quick way to earn points is to fight Lucca's battle bot Gato. The robot is located in the fairgrounds. Head north to the second screen that holds Leene's Bell. From here walk all the way to the left side of the screen and exit. Walk up and press A to challenge the robot. At this point in the game you only need to land one hit to take him out. Once you do he will give you 15 Silver Points!
- Whether or not you needed to go earn Silver Points, you should be back in Bekkler's tent. Bekkler's game involves mimicking the motions of a Crono clone. Follow the on-screen directions. The game is pretty easy, but one wrong move will end it. Either way you will end up with the doll at the end (provided you have enough money). Bekkler says he will deliver it to Crono's house. Exit the fairgrounds.
- Enter Crono's House. Walk upstairs. The life-size Crono doll is near his desk. Try to take the doll. This will trigger a brief conversation with Crono's mother. Claim the doll when you are finished talking.
- Exit the house. Enter the Epoch. Warp to 2300 A.D.
- NOTE: At this point you can obtain the Silver Gemstone if you wish. Consult the Guide to Gemstones for more information.
Death Peak
- Land near the Keeper's Dome. Enter the dome.
- Walk through the dome and talk to the Nu one final time. It will initiate a program to help guide you up Death Peak. This takes the form of three dolls... yes, dolls. Walk over and switch the Nu off.
- Exit the dome and enter Death Peak to the north.
- You should now be in the Death Peak area. Head north. Talk to the doll. It tells you to hide behind trees when the wind picks up. The alternative is that your party will be blown back out to the overworld, forcing you to re-enter the area.
- This part is fairly self-explanatory. There are only two trees. Hide behind the first tree and then, when the wind dies down, run to the next. Run forward after the second tree and you will eventually exit the screen.
- You should now be at the next screen. Head left. Fight the three Blood Yolk that you encounter.
- Keep going left. Open the treasure chest at the end of the path to collect the Magic Ring. Now head back to where you fought the Blood Yolk. Climb up the stone ladder to the next level.
- Head right. The path forks. You can either head north or south. Head south. Fight the two Blood Yolks. Climb up the ladder behind them to reach the next level. Head right and exit to the next screen.
- Engage the three Blood Yolks you see. A creature called a Macabre will also materialize. Take out the Macabre first, then the Blood Yolks. Head north and then turn right. You can either go north or south at this point. Go north. Defeat the two Macabres you encounter. Enter the cave.
- YouTube: Crono is back! (Time: 10:57)
- Inside the cave you will encounter a Lavos Spawn. DO NOT attack its back. If you do it will retaliate with a damaging needle attack that deals around 230 HP to each party member. Instead aim for its head. Do not use any attacks that will do damage to both parts of its body. The Spin Strike triple tech (Frog, Ayla, Robo) works well against its head since the tech only damages one target at a time (this assumes, of course, you got the Silver Gemstone). The Lavos Spawn will occasionally use its needles, but it will mostly rely on status spells like Sleep and Confuse.
- Once it is defeated, open the chest to the right to collect a Gigaton Arm. Equip it to Robo. Head north through the next hole in the wall.
- Walk along the snowy path as it bends around to the right. You will be ambushed by three more Macabres. Keep heading to the right after you are done with them. Exit to the next area.
- You will be inside another cave. Open the nearby treasure chest to obtain the Brave Sword. Equip it to Frog. Head south and you will be attacked by three Blood Yolk. Defeat them. Exit the cave to the south (you cannot yet reach the stairs on your left).
- Turn left once you get outside of the cave. Follow the path around and press A when you see the shiny object in the snow. This will open up a secret passage in the gorge below.
- Backtrack through the cave to the gorge. You will have to face many of the same enemies again (Macabres, Blood Yolk).
- When you get to the gorge, open the treasure chest on your right to receive a Barrier Ring. Now head north and into the cave entrance you opened.
- Head up the stairs. A Blood Yolk will fall into your path once you get to the top of the second stairs. Defeat it. Collect the Hadean Sickle from the nearby treasure chest. Equip it to Magus. Walk up the remaining stairs and exit the cave.
- You will see another Lavos Spawn ahead of you. Restore your party members' HP/MP. Walk forward and engage the creature when you are ready. Use the same tactics as before to achieve victory. Exit to the left once you defeat the monstrosity.
- You will see a doll ahead of you. Talk to it. It tells you that the footing across the bridge ahead is icy. If you fall you will have to start over.
- Begin heading across the bridge. The ice will cause your party so slip downward. Keep pushing up on the D-pad to regain your footing as you move. Be patient. You may fall once or twice before you make it across. Exit to the next screen once you do so.
- You will see Blood Yolks sliding down a snowy hill. They will be between you and a treasure chest. Try to wait for a break in the creatures and then run across the path to reach the chest. You may still get hit, which forces you to fight however many Blood Yolks are on the screen (at the most four). Once you defeat and/or evade them, open the treasure chest and collect the Yaksha Blade. This is for Crono.
- Run south along the slope on which the Blood Yolk are sliding. Try to avoid hitting any or you will be forced to fight them. Keep heading in the same direction and you will eventually be taken to another screen.
- Follow the path south and then to the left. Exit to the next screen.
- You will see another doll. Talk to it. It tells you to "push the shell, climb the shell." The meaning of this will soon become readily apparent.
- Walk to the doll's left and climb down the stone steps to the lower level. Follow the path as it bends around to the left. Stop before the path goes north. First climb down the steps to the lower level. You will find a treasure chest with a Dark Helm inside of it. Save your game using the Save Point here.
- Climb back up to the higher level. Now head north. You will be confronted by the last Lavos Spawn. Use the same tactics as before to defeat it.
- You will notice that this Lavos Spawn leaves behind its shell. Remember the doll's advice? Push the shell to the right until it rests underneath stone steps in the wall. Press A to climb up the shell when it is in the right position. Continue climbing up the stone steps to reach the next level. Head north to the next screen once you reach the top.
- Continue forward. Eventually the computer will take control. Watch the cut scene. Your party will use the Chrono Trigger. This causes them to reappear at Ocean Palace, merely seconds before Chrono was destroyed. All the participants in that event appear as stone statues. Walk to Crono and press A. Your party will exchange him for the doll you acquired at Leene Square. The group will now reappear at the summit of Death Peak, with Crono alive and in tow.
The Fated Hour
- The whole gang will appear back at The End of Time. Crono is once again a playable character. This time, however, you do not need to include him as a party member. That being said, it is recommended you do so since he is arguably the game's best all-around character.
- Before you can do anything else you must talk to Gaspar at The End of Time. He will lay out the options for fighting Lavos and open up each characters' side-quest.
- NOTE: At this point in the game there is not a strictly linear path for you to follow. You can engage in the final battle with Lavos now if you wish. You can get to him by using the bucket at The End of Time (the one to Gaspar's right), flying the Epoch to 1999 A.D., or fight through the Black Omen. Doing any of these right away, however, cuts the game drastically short. There is still quite a bit of the game left.
- NOTE: Each character has a sidequest that you can access at this point (except for Crono and Ayla). To discover the sidequest, talk to each character. He or she will give you the location and rough time period to access the quest. You can do these in any order. The reward for completing them will usually involve that character's ultimate weapon. What follows is a walkthrough for each of these quests.
Frog's Sidequest
- Hop into the Epoch. Travel to 600 A.D.
- Land on the continent in the lower right hand part of the map. This town is called Choras.
- Enter the tavern. Talk to the man sitting in the chair, drinking ale. He is the town's carpenter. He says he cannot work without his tools.
- Walk north to the Northern Ruins. Enter the ruins.
- You will be in a hallway. There is a staircase to your right and one to your left. Don't bother with the ones on the right (the room you reach will be inaccessible). Turn and walk down the steps to your left.
- You will see two Ghost Knights ahead. Engage and fight them. They are immune to normal attacks so use your magic abilities like Lightning II against them.
- Run to the right. You will encounter two more Ghost Knights. Defeat them in the same manner as their predecessors. Open the treasure chest to your north to obtain a Turbo Ether.
- You cannot go further due to the building's disrepair. Head back to your left. You will be ambushed by four Ghost Knights. Use spells that hit all four at once to defeat them.
- Backtrack to the entrance and exit the ruins.
- Enter the Epoch. Travel to 1,000 A.D. Land at Choras Village.
- Enter Choras Inn. Walk over and talk to the man sitting in the chair, drinking ale. He will agree to let you borrow his tools. He says to get them from his wife. Exit the tavern.
- Enter the Residence to the west of the Inn. Talk to the woman inside. This is the carpenter's wife. She will give you his tools. Exit the house.
- Enter the Epoch. Travel back to 600 A.D.
- Land at Choras Village. Enter the Tavern.
- Talk to the carpenter. Agree to lend the tools to him. Leave the Tavern.
- Enter the Residence to the west of the Tavern. Talk to the carpenter. He will agree to repair the Northern Ruins. Exit the Residence.
- Enter the Northern Ruins. The carpenter and his team will be waiting for you. He says that they have done all they can, but you must clear the area of monsters for them to continue. Enter the stairwell to the right of the entrance.
- NOTE: The pattern for much of this sidequest will be that you must clear the ruins of monsters each time the carpenter repairs more of the castle and gives you access to new areas.
- Walk through the door in the room at the top of the stairs.
- You will be in a large room. You can head left, right, or north. Head north toward the skeletons lying on the floor. Two skeletons will spring to life and attack. These are called Fallen. Additionally two Flesh Reapers will join the fray. Cast a magic spell that deals damage to all of them and then finish them off with normal attacks.
- Head back to the entrance of the room. Now run to your right. Defeat the two Fallen and the Flesh Reaper that attack. Head back to the entrance of the room.
- Run to the left. Defeat the two Flesh Reapers and Fallen that attack. Head back to the center of the room. Exit the room.
- Head back to the entrance and exit the ruins.
- Head back to the carpenter's residence. Talk to the carpenter. He will agree to repair the ruins if you pay him 2,000 gold. Pay the man. Exit the house.
- Re-enter the Northern Ruins.
- You will have to defeat some more monsters. Head down the stairs to the left of the main entrance.
- You will now be in the hallway area where you fought the Ghost Knights. Run all the way to the right and enter the door on the other side of the room (the one that was previously inaccessible).
- Enter the next door. Run up the stairs to the gravestone. Place Frog as the leader of your party. Read the gravestone. It is Cyrus' grave. Watch the cut scene between Frog and Cyrus' ghost. When all is done the Masamune sword will be enchanted. Frog now has his ultimate weapon. Leave the room. Exit the ruins.
- NOTE: Now that you have received Frog's ultimate weapon, any further repairs to the Northern Ruins are unnecessary. It is worthwhile to continue repairing them though since there are undiscovered treasures just begging to be reclaimed.
- Walk back to the carpenter's residence. Pay the carpenter another 2,000 gold to continue the repairs. Exit the house and re-enter the Northern Ruins.
- The carpenter will inform you that they have done all they can. There is nothing left to fix.
- Enter the stairwell to the right of the main entrance. Make your way to the large room where you fought the multiple groups of skeletons. This time the holes should be repaired, giving you access to all the doors.
- Enter the door on the left side of the room. You will enter a small room with a treasure chest at its center. Inside the chest is an Elixir.
- Now walk through the door on the right side of the room. Inside will be a sealed chest. Press A but do not remove the item from the chest. Remember that you can upgrade the items if you claim them in the future (1,000 A.D.). Walk back out to the previous room.
- Now walk through the door directly to the north (the middle door). Run through the next door. You will eventually enter a small room where you will be attacked by two Flesh Reapers. Defeat them. Walk through the door ahead.
- Run up the small set of stairs and through yet another door. You will emerge into a larger room with two visible sets of stairs. Run forward and defeat the two Fallen and two Souls that attack. Remember that these guys are particularly vulnerable to magical attacks.
- Run up the stairs between the two blue flames. Keep heading north. Eventually you will see two sealed chests. Two Fallen are nearby. Run forward to fight the two Fallen and two more Souls. Use the same tactics as before to defeat them.
- Interact with both sealed chests but do not remove the contents. Backtrack and exit the Northern Ruins.
- Enter the Epoch. Warp to 1,000 A.D. Land near the Northern Ruins in that time. Enter the ruins.
- The ruins will look exactly the same as they did in 600 A.D. Return to all the sealed chests and open them. You should receive the following: Moonbeam Armor, a Valkyrie Bow, and a Suzaku. The last two items are weapon upgrades for Marle and Crono respectively. Exit the Northern Ruins.
- TIP: Return to 600 A.D. after you've taken the items from the chests in 1,000 A.D. You can open the chests in this time period as well, but you will receive the normal, non-enhanced versions. Of these the most important to get is the Nova Armor (which upgraded to the Moonbeam Armor in 1,000 A.D.).
- TIP: Now that you have Frog's ultimate weapon you can get the Golden Gemstone. Refer to the Guide to Gemstones for more information.
