The End of Time
- YouTube: End of Time! Spekkio! (Time: 10:59)
- You will watch a cut scene where Crono and Lucca drag Robo back to Proto Dome. Lucca then attempts to repair him. The next morning, Robo is back in action. The four enter a time portal which takes them to The End of Time.
- Your party materializes in one of three buckets of light. Run down the stairs ahead of you.
- You will reach a square-shaped area with a lamp post at its center. Talk to the old man (Gaspar) sleeping near the post.
- Gaspar explains that only three party members can travel through time at, well, a time. Choose one of the four characters to stay behind. Remember you can swap characters at any time via the menu.
- TIP: At this point in the game you must use Crono. Therefore you have to choose two of the three remaining characters to create your party. If you want to play more defensively then include Marle. If offense if your game, then Lucca should be included. In any case, it is advisable to include Robo because of his strong attacks (he is also decent at healing).
- TIP: Familiarize yourself with the main area of The End of Time. The crystal ball to the left of Gaspar (on the green table) restores your characters' HP and MP. There is also a Save Point nearby. Do not use the crystal to Gaspar's right until you are ready to jump to the end of the game. If this is your first time playing, then trust me, you aren't ready yet.
- Gaspar tells you use the buckets of light (one of which you used to arrive) in order to return to your time. Try to walk back. Gaspar will call you back over. Talk to him. He tells you walk through the door behind him.
- Make sure that Crono, Lucca, and Marle are in your party. Walk through the door behind the man.
- You will emerge into another square-shaped area. Talk to the creature standing at the center of the room. He introduces himself as Spekkio.
- He'll ask you whether he looks strong or weak. Answer him (it doesn't matter which way you answer). He will assign each of the three characters in your party with a certain type of magic. Crono will wield light magic, Marle will have ice (water), Lucca controls fire, and Robo, although he can't cast magic, can deal shadow magic damage with his lasers.
- Spekkio will tell you to circle clockwise around the room three times. Follow his command. Start from the door. Talk to Spekkio after you've completed your laps. He will assign each person in your party with his or her magic type.
- NOTE: Spekkio will ask whether or not you want to try out your magic. This is purely optional but advisable to go through at least once. Do not waste your health Potions. You will probably lose the first time fighting him (but don't worry, it's not game over). If you do defeat him, however, he will give you 1 Magic Capsule and 5 Ethers.
- Leave the room.
- TIP: Take any new characters who join your party to Spekkio to gain magic. This begins with whatever member is not in your party at the moment (excluding Robo).
- Talk to the Gaspar again. Save your game. Return to the three buckets of light (where you entered The End of Time).
- Take the bucket on the right to Medina Village 1,000 A.D.
-
Fiendish Folk - 1,000 A.D.
- YouTube: Heckron cave (Time: 9:41)
- Your party will appear in a house belonging to some monsters. Try to leave the house. One of the monsters tells you there is a human who lives near a cave in the mountains to the west. Exit the house.
- You will now be on the overworld screen. Head west from the town until you see a lone cabin. Enter Melchior's Cabin.
- TIP: Skip the Medina Village's market for now. The monster shopkeeper will not sell to you at first. You must "plead" with him and then fight his bodyguard for him to sell anything to you. Even then, however, his prices are astronomical.
- You will recognize Melchior as the swordsmith from Leene Square. Talk to Melchior. He will offer to sell you weapons. Sell some of your items that you are no longer using and stock up on whatever weapons and/or items your party needs. You will want to specifically stock up on Ethers to restore MP. Exit his cabin.
- Head north from Melchior's Cabin and enter Heckran Cave.
-
-
Heckran Cave
- NOTE: Many of the monsters you encounter in Heckran Cave will be more susceptible to magic than physical attacks.
- You will be immediately attacked by two monsters. Defeat them and follow the path around until you reach a rope ladder. Climb down the ladder. Open the treasure chest you find and then climb down the next ladder.
- Run to the left. You will see stone stairs to the south. Defeat the Djinn Bottle and the three Cave Stalkers. Use a magical attacks to quickly defeat each enemy. Try to defeat the Djinn Bottle first since it steals MP. Walk down the stairs.
- Run down the two sets of stairs until you reach the bottom floor. You will be attacked by two Rhino Weevils. Use magic to defeat this gruesome pair.
- Head to the left. Take the Mid-Ether from the treasure chest. Follow the path up and to the left. You will be attacked by four Rhino Weevils. Use magic to dispatch them.
- Head north and collect the Ether from the treasure chest. Now head south until you reach the next screen.
- In this next area, four creatures called Boundillos will attack you. As before, use your magic to defeat each monster.
- Head left and up the stairs you see. Keep heading to the left. You will be attacked by three Cave Bats. Use magic to defeat them. Head north through the hole in the rocks.
- You will be in a wide passageway. Head north. You will fight another Djinn Bottle and three Cave Stalkers. As before, eliminate the Djinn Bottle first with magic. Once all are defeated, keep heading north. You will see a black treasure chest. Ignore this for now for you can't open it yet. Consult the Guide to Sealed Chests and Doors for more information. Exit through the passage on the right.
- Your party will now be standing on a ledge overlooking an underground stream. Walk down the steps below. Follow the stream to the right as far as you can go, and then to the north. Walk up the stairs you find. Save your game via the Save Point. Exit to the next area.
- Walk forward and you will hear a monster screech. It will say, "Death to the enemies of fiendkind!" The titular Heckran will emerge.
-
Boss - Heckran
- YouTube: Boss Battle! Heckran! (Time: 10:55)
- Heckran is an easy fight as long as you know what to do. First of all, Attack Heckran with magic only. Like most of the monsters in his cave, physical attacks will do little damage to him.
- Since Heckran only takes significant damage from magic, it is advantageous to have the three humans (Crono, Marle, Lucca) as your party. If you choose to include Robo then use his lasers to inflict shadow magic damage.
- Heckran can take a lot of damage and likewise can deal a lot to your characters. Most of his attacks deal about 70-90 HP a piece. Luckily, with one exception, his attacks focus on a single party member at a time. This being the case, a good strategy is to have one party member, preferably Robo or Marle heal the other two members as needed. Again, the double tech Aura Whirl comes in handy since it can heal all members at once.
- Keep an eye on your MP. Have one party member use Ethers on the others as needed.
- IMPORTANT: At some point Heckran will say, "Go ahead, try to attack, see what it gets you!" He will then bring his arm over his face. Do not attack when he is in this stance. If you do, he will counterattack with Water II, which deals about 70-90 HP to all party members. Instead wait until the screen says "counterattack disengaged." Now you may attack as normal.
- After defeating Heckran, run forward and up the stairs behind where he was standing. Jump in the pool you find. This will transport you back to Truce Village 1,000 A.D.
-
The Hero Appears - 600 A.D.
- You will emerge near Lucca's House. Head north, through the village to Leene Square.
- TIP: Along the way, stop by the town market. If you saved Fritz in prison he will give you 10 Mid-Ethers.
- Run north through the square until you reach Lucca's experiment. Activate the time portal and step inside.
- You will reach the End of Time. Save your game and restore your HP/MP as needed.
- Step into the bucket of light that leads to Truce Canyon, 600 A.D.
- You will recognize this area from earlier. Follow the path and make your way to the overworld screen.
- Head south through the town, then west. Once you can see the Cathedral, start heading south until you reach Zenan Bridge. Enter the area.
-
Zenan Bridge
- YouTube: Zenan bridge! Boss battle! Zombor (Time: 11:00)
- Talk to the commander (the soldier in gold). He will complain about how his provisions have not arrived from the castle. Exit the area.
- Head north and enter Guardia Forest. Make your way through the forest to Guardia Castle.
- Once you enter the castle, head to the right. Follow the path and go down the stairs at the end of the hall.
- You are now in the kitchen. Head south and talk to the chef. He will brush you off.
- Leave the kitchen and retrace your steps back to the entrance of the castle. The chef will run after you and stop you. He will give you spiced jerky for the troops and a Strength Capsule for a member of your party. Exit the castle.
- Make your way through Guardia Forest and back to Zenan Bridge.
- Talk to the commander. Give him the food. Shortly thereafter a soldier will appear and announce that Magus' troops are attacking. Talk to the commander again and agree to help in the fight. He will give you a Golden Helm. Equip it to a party member.
- Run to the left, onto the bridge, until you see a group of soldiers being killed by skeletons. Ozzie, one of Magus's generals will appear and order the two skeletons to attack. Use magic on the two skeletons (they are resistant to physical attacks). Attack Ozzie once you've dispatched them. He will flee. Keep moving to the left.
- Eventually Ozzie will resurrect three more skeletons to attack you. Deal with them the same way and then attack Ozzie. Keep moving forward after he flees.
- When you get to the end of the bridge Ozzie will combine all the skeletons together to create Zombor, an undead monstrosity.
-
-
Boss - Zombor
- You can target either Zombor's legs or his torso. Concentrate on his torso first since that is where his most damaging attacks originate.
- These attacks include: breathing fire on a single party member (40 HP), Yelling, "Death, death, death" and shooting out a blast of light that hits all party members (80 - 90 HP per member), yelling, "blood, blood, blood" and sapping about 40 HP from a single party member and adding it to his own health.
- Do not use magic or any MP abilities on the torso portion of his body. He will actually gain health from this. Use normal attacks on the torso.
- He can quickly whittle down your party's HP, so be careful. As before, have one party member (preferably Marle or Robo) heal the other two while they attack.
- Once the top half dies it will steal all the MP of one party member with a move called MP Buster. Simply use a Mid-Ether to restore his or her MP.
- Now you have to deal with his legs. Unlike his torso, these are vulnerable to magic, so wail on them with your spells. These legs, however, can still damage you. They can deal around 40 HP to a single party member or stomp the ground and deal about 25 HP to all party members.
- Once Zombor is no more, run to the left to enter the overworld screen.
-
Tata and the Frog - 600 A.D.
- Ignore the town of Dorino to your immediate east. Instead, head south until you reach the town of Porre. Visit the market there and buy Golden Suits for your party members (and Porrean Berets for Marle and Lucca). Note also the glimmering Strength Capsule on the floor inside of the market.
- Walk northwest to the Cursed Woods. Enter the woods.
- Head north and you will be attacked by two Edible Frogs. Use magic to defeat them.
- Keep heading north. You will see several more Edible Frogs along the way. You may choose to fight or simply evade them.
- Eventually the path comes to a dead end. Walk into the bush in the middle of the path. This reveals a hidden stairway.
- You will climb down into a subterranean dwelling. Walk down the stairs to the main floor.
- Frog will jump out and reveal himself. Talk to Frog. He says he wants to be left alone. Collect the Magic Scarf from the treasure chest to the right of the stairs (it looks like an apple). Exit Frog's house the way you came.
-
Denadoro Mountains
- YouTube: Denadoro Mountains! (Time: 10:49)
- Head north and enter the Denadoro Mountains (they are east of Dorino).
- TIP: You will want to have Lucca in your party for this area.
- You will see two birds with bells along with a pair of troll-like monsters ahead of you. You can fight them, or run to their right (make sure the birds don't hit you) and north along the mountain stream to avoid them.
- Keep following the path to the north until you see a rope ladder. Before proceeding up the ladder, head to the next screen. The entrance is to the right of the ladder.
- In this next area, look for the treasure chest along the left side of the path. Inside is the Mirage Hand. Equip it to Robo. Now go back to the previous screen and try to climb up the rope ladder.
- When you do, a boy named Tata will appear. He is being chased by a monster. The boy disappears and the monster turns its attention on you. This creature is called an Ogan. A few quick attacks with your sword will slay it.
- After a brief interlude with Tata, another Ogan will make an appearance. This one, however, holds an axe. These axe-wielding Ogans are resistant to physical damage. When you encounter one of these use Lucca's fire spell on them. This causes them to drop the axe. Now attack them normally. Use this strategy to send this lone Ogan to meet his maker.
- Finally, climb up the rope ladder.
- You now have the choice of going north or south. First head south to the next screen and collect the Athenian Water you find from the treasure chest there. Now return to the previous screen. Head north.
- NOTE: Take note of the sleeping Ogan to your right. An enemy named a Freelancer may appear. It will throw a rock to awaken the Ogan. If this happens you must fight both enemies.
- Keep heading north and eventually you will reach a bridge that extends to the right. Before you can cross you will be attacked by two Ogans. Use Lucca's fire on the one with the axe before making short work of both creatures. Open the treasure chest behind them to collect 500 gold.
- Cross the bridge to your right. Once across, walk south. Be careful to avoid the Ogan who leaps out at you. You'll have to fight him if he catches you. Either way, head up the rope ladder near where he lurks.
- Keep walking north and follow the path to the right to get to the next screen.
- YouTube: Still in the Mountains (Time: 10:59)
- Walk forward through this canyon. Be careful to avoid Freelancer enemies who drop from above. If one hits you then you must fight him. Keep heading to the right until you see another rope ladder. Take the Athenian Water from the nearby treasure chest. Fight the two Freelancers that appear. Climb up the ladder.
- On the next landing will be another treasure chest. Open it to find another Golden Helm. Climb up the next rope ladder.
- There will be an Ogan with an axe waiting for you at the top of the ladder. Use Lucca's fire and then dispatch him. Head to the left. A Freelancer will be blocking your path. Fight him and the Ogan he summons. Walk to the left to reach the next screen.
- Head north, up the two rope ladders. Ignore the Freelancer throwing rocks. Head right to the next screen once you reach the top of the second rope ladder.
- Head to the right and climb up the rope ladder you find. Defeat the two Freelancers that attack you at the top. Collect the 600 gold contained within the treasure chest to your right. Keep following the path north to the next screen.
- You will emerge on a ledge with a view of the mountains. Try to head to the left. You will be attacked by two Ogans. What follows is an endurance round where you must fight a series of enemies. The computer slowly moves your party forward each time you defeat a group of foes. These include the aforementioned two Ogans, an Ogan and a Freelancer, two more Ogans, and finally two Freelancers and an Ogan. Use the same tactics as before, making sure to use fire on the Ogans with axes. After you've defeated this last group, head left to the next screen.
- Take the 300 gold from the treasure chest just south of where you are standing. Follow the path until it leads you into the mountain stream. You will be attacked by two Freelancers and a Bellbird. Defeat them and then head north.
- NOTE: If you head south then your party will fall off the waterfall and into a new area. If this happens, then head to the right until you are once again walking on the green path. Briefly head south to collect the Silver Earring from the treasure chest there. Now head north to the next screen. You must get back to where you were before you fell, but the trade-off is the Silver Earring which boosts the wearer's HP.
- Head north along the stream. Turn left to return to the green path. Evade the Freelancer and climb down the rope ladder near him. Another Freelancer will ambush your party, forcing you to fight both bird creatures. After doing so, run left to the next screen.
- Run across the bridge. On the other side you will see a creature (Spekkio?) looking out at the mountains. Talk to him. Keep talking to him until he gets annoyed and gives you a Magic Capsule to make you go away. Walk south to exit the screen.
- In this new area you will see a Save Point. SAVE YOUR GAME. Head south via the rope ladders. Once you reach the bottom of the second ladder, head to your right to exit the screen.
- You will be in a new area. Head south. Climb down the rope bridge. You will see three Ogans sleeping nearby. Evade them and make your way to the rope bridge to your right. Climb up the bridge.
- Unfortunately, when you get to the top, a Freelancer will knock you back down. This awakens the three Ogans, forcing you to fight them and a single Freelancer. Deal with them in the usual manner and then climb up the ladder once more.
- Enter the cave you see to the north.
Boss - Masamune
- YouTube: Boss Battle! Masamune! (Time: 10:59)
- Inside the cave you will see a small boy. Ignore him. Proceed forward until you see a sword stuck in the ground. This is the Masamune. Try to walk up to the sword. The boy will intercept you and ask if you came to take the Masamune. Answer, "Yes." Another boy will appear and they will transform into monsters. Let the boss battle begin!
- This boss battle takes place in two parts. As you can see, in the first portion you must face two monsters. Masa and Mune can attack a single party member with swipes or punches (25 HP), or team up and cast a whirlwind on one party member which confuses him or her. Use a Panacea item on this member to restore their status. They can also team up to perform X-Strike Counterattack, which deals about 40 HP to a single party member. This, however, only seems to happen if you attack the creature to the right with the green collar (Masa).
- Focus all your attacks on Mune (the one on the left with the purple collar). They seem to share HP, so once you wear Mune down, it will be game over for both... or so you think!
- Just once you think the pair are defeated, they combine into a single monstrosity. This is stage two of the boss fight - a much deadlier form with stronger attacks. Just like with many bosses, however, as long as you know what to do he shouldn't be too much trouble.
- IMPORTANT: To defeat this boss it is crucial that you prevent him from attacking with his mass wind attack. This deals upwards of 100 HP to each party member and will most likely spell game over. To make matters worse, as he builds up to this he will begin to counter every hit he takes with an attack similar to Crono's Wind Slash. This deals about 50 HP to a single party member. The way to keep him from unleashing these attacks is to attack him with Crono's Wind Slash attack. You need to do this when the screen says that Masamune is "charging wind energy." Crono's attack dissipates the wind energy and prevents Masamune really doing anything but taking swipes at single party members (40 HP).
- Keep your health up using Potions, Marle's Aura ability, and the Aura Whirl double tech. Attack him with magic as much as possible. Crono, however, should just use the Wind Slash since Lightning doesn't seem to deal as much damage as Water or Fire magic. Another thing to watch out for is Crono's MP. You do not want him to run out and risk not being able to perform a Wind Slash at the proper time.
- Once you defeat the boss, the two boys will reappear. Follow them back to the sword. Take the sword. The party will then ride the wind to the base of the mountain.
Repairing the Sword
- Your party will reappear in the overworld, at the base of the Denadoro Mountains.
- Head south to Porre Village. Enter Tata's House.
- Tata is near the entryway. Talk to him. He will give you the Hero's Badge. Exit the house.
- Re-enter the Cursed Woods.
- Make your way back to Frog's home. Talk to Frog. He will respond to the Hero's Badge, but will still refuse to become the hero. Open the glimmering treasure chest near where Frog was standing. You will find the broken hilt of the Masamune. Your party members discover that Melchior's name is written on the Masamune. Exit Frog's House.
- Exit the Cursed Woods.
- Head to the north continent and enter Truce Canyon. Enter the portal to The End of Time.
- Warp to Medina Village, 1,000 A.D.
- Exit the house to the overworld screen. Proceed west and re-enter Melchior's Cabin.
- Talk to Melchior. He says he can repair the sword only if he gets his hands on the dreamstone from which it was made.
- Proceed back to the house where you entered this time period. Open the cabinet to enter the time portal.
