Sunken Desert - 600 A.D.
- YouTube: Fiona's Forest is restored! (Time: 10:55)
- IMPORTANT: To access this quest you must have told the woman in Zeal Palace to plant the sapling during one of your two trips to 12,000 B.C.
- Board the Epoch. Travel to 600 A.D. Land in the desert area just south of the Denadoro Mountains. Enter Fiona's Villa (the lone cabin in the desert).
- Talk to Fiona. She says that she cannot plant anything because of the monsters in the Sunken Desert. Exit her house.
- Walk south and enter the Sunken Desert (the swirling hole).
- TIP: The monsters in this desert are vulnerable to water. It is advisable to include Frog, Marle, or Magus in your party since they have water-based attacks.
- Run forward to the dark circular area and you will fall into the Sunken Desert.
- Open the treasure chest to your left to collect a Lapis. Head south and you will be attacked by three Sandrago and a Vilepillar. Cast Ice II or Water II to hit all the enemies at once. This will kill most of the enemies. Finish off any stragglers.
- Head further south and defeat the three Vilepillars that attack you.
- There are treasure chests in the four corners of this room. Head around the room and open each chest. Before you reach each chest you will be attacked by a group of Vilepillars (usually three, but the group that attacks you in the upper left hand corner will only consist of two). Use the same strategy each time. Cast Ice II or Water II and then finish them off with normal attacks. Make sure to also defeat the three Sandragos that attack near the stairs on the north side of the room. They appear when you try to walk up these stairs.
- When you are done opening the treasure chests, head to the south side of the room and exit via the stairs there.
- Walk down the stairs to the lower area. Open the nearby treasure chest to receive a Hi-Potion. Head to the right. You will see a short cut scene where Melphyx reveals himself. Don't worry, you won't fight him... yet. Continue to the right.
- Open the chest you find to receive 5,000 gold. Now head south.
- Open the next chest you see off to your right to receive a Turbo Ether. Continue to the south. Open the next chest you see to receive an Aeonian Helm.
- Run to the center of the room and walk up the stairs to to the top of the platform. Open the treasure chest there to discover the Muscle Ring.
- Run to the lower left hand corner of the room and collect the Memory Cap. Now head north and open the treasure chest to your left for a Hi-Ether.
- When you are ready, heal your party and engage Melphyx as he emerges from the sand. Here are some notes about this boss battle:
- Melphyx is made up of three parts: his legs, torso, and a core in the middle. The top will absorb energy from the core, which in turn takes away HP from the core itself.
- Immediately cast Water II or Ice II based spell. Although this does not damage Melphyx, it will weaken his defense. Note that every time you hit him with an attack, he will raise his defense. You must then hit him with another water spell before resuming the attack.
- Concentrate on eliminating the core. After that, begin attacking his torso. Eventually this will fade away as well, leaving on his legs left for you to attack.
- A good strategy is to have one character cast water-based spells (Frog, Magus, or Marle) and the other two use dual techs against Melphyx while his defense is down. Keep in mind that he is immune to magic attacks.
- As far as his attacks, the only thing to really watch out for is when his legs (yes his legs) consume a single party member. This will deal upwards of 400 HP in damage.
- Go to the previous screen once you defeat him. Head north. Watch for the Strength Capsule glowing in the sand on your left. Run up the stairs on the north side of the screen.
- Enter Fiona's Villa. Talk to Fiona. She will thank you for destroying the monsters but lament that it will take centuries to replenish the forest. Place Robo in your party and talk to her again. Elect to have Robo stay behind and help Fiona.
- Board the Epoch and travel to 1,000 A.D.
- You will now see that the area once covered by desert in 600 A.D. will have been transformed into a forest. Land and enter the building at the center of the forest. It's called Fiona's Shrine.
- Run forward, through the shrine. Robo is waiting at the altar.
- NOTE: The second nun on the right will sell you various helms. All of these prevent status ailments.
- Reactivate Robo. Watch the cut scene that follows.
- Eventually the game will give you control of Lucca. Head right and take the path below Magus to the next screen. Enter the portal you find on the next screen.
- You will appear in one of the upper bedrooms of Lucca's house. Read the note at the foot of the bed. Run down the stairs.
- Enter the door between the two stairs. You will enter the kitchen. Read the note on the table. It is from Taban. It says that the password to shut down the device is the name of "my one true love." This is Lucca's mother, Lara. Keep this in mind.
- Exit the room. You will be back between the two staircases. Now head south into the next room.
- You will be in the main room of Lucca's house. Watch as Lara gets her skirt caught in the machine. When this occurs, run to the portion of the machine that is glimmering (similar to how the capsules glimmer while on the ground). Press A when you reach it. The machine will then ask for the password. Press the following button combination: L,A,R,A. If you input it correctly then the machine will stop. You only get a few tries, so make them count.
- The screen will fade to black no matter what happens. The game will automatically take you to Lucca's upstairs bedroom. Re-enter the time portal when you regain control of Lucca.
- Talk to Robo. He will give you the Green Dream. This accessory automatically revives the party member you equip it to when he or she falls in battle.
- After the cut scene you will regain control of your party in the overworld. Head to Lucca's House.
- Talk to Taban. He will give you the Taban Suit. This is Lucca's ultimate armor. If you wish you can also visit the bedroom to the upper right. Now that you've changed the future Lara will be walking around.
The Birthplace of Machines - 2300 A.D.
- Board the Epoch. Warp to 2300 A.D.
- Travel to the island in the southeast side of the map. Land and enter the Geno Dome.
- You will enter a room with a computer. Place Robo at the front of your party. Access the computer. Walk through the door that opens to your right.
- You will see a large conveyor belt in front of you. Jump onto the conveyor belt. You will be attacked by groups of enemies as you move along the conveyor belt. The order is as follows:
- Two Deverminator EX.
- Two Version 4.0.
- Four Deverminator EX.
- Two Deverminator EX, two Version 4.0.
- Four Deverminator EX, two Version 4.0.
- You will eventually reach the end of the conveyor belt. Walk through the door at the end of the belt.
- You will be in a hallway. Turn left. You will pass a door that you cannot yet enter. Head north and the next opportunity.
- Ignore the door ahead of you and instead turn right. You will see three Version 4.0 patrolling in front of a computer. Defeat them and activate the computer. The computer will tell you how to deal with the doors, the conveyor belt, sentinels, and figurines found in the dome. For now, read the entry about the doors. It says to enter the compartment to the left of the computer. From there you can open the sealed doors (like the one you passed earlier).
- Open the compartment with the nearby switch (the one on the wall under the note). Step into the compartment. Robo will hold an electric shock. Run out of the compartment and back toward the sealed door you passed earlier. Hurry because the charge will wear off.
- When you reach the door, open the compartment to its right. Step into the compartment to open the door. Enter the newly opened door.
- Open the two treasure chests in the room to obtain a Hi-Potion and 50,000 gold. Exit the room.
- Head back toward where you activated the last computer. Enter the gray door you see ahead.
- Head north. You will see another sealed door ahead. Defeat the four Laser Guards to the right of this compartment. Head north. You will see three switches on the wall. Press the one to the left and the one to the right. This will open the compartment next to the last sealed door (the one in the same room as you).
- Return to the previous computer area and charge Robo. Run back and enter the compartment to open this door. Enter the door.
- Collect the figurine you find in this small room. Return to where you began the level (after the conveyor belt section).
- Head to your left again. Run past the first hallway that heads north. You will see a larger hall that is guarded by two Deverminator EX. They will automatically attack you if you run far enough into their field of vision. Defeat them and head north.
- You cannot reach the figurine ahead because a sentinel blocks you. Remember this location. Head back to the beginning of this area.
- Now turn right and head down the hallway.
- You will see a Deverminator EX patrolling the hall. You can avoid it or engage it. If you decide to fight you will actually face three at once. A disembodied voice will soon begin talking about Lavos, robots, and mankind. This is a recurring theme in this quest.
- NOTE: You will see a twinkling dot near a ladder on your right. This chute brings you back to the beginning of the level. Note that if you elect to do this you will have to fight your way back through the conveyor belt portion described above.
- Enter the door near where you fought/evaded the Deverminator EX. Walk onto the elevator. It will take you to a higher level.
- There will be a Save Point to your right. Save the game. Walk through the gray door to the left of where you entered the room.
- You will now be in a hallway. Collect the Strength Capsule off the ground to your immediate right. Now head north, through the hall, to the next area.
- You will see two Laser Guards ahead of you. Walk further into the room. Defeat the two Laser Guards and the two Version 4.0 that attack. Exit the room via the doorway ahead.
- Step into the elevator. It will lift you up to the next level.
- Run to your immediate left. There will be a secret hallway under the green arrow. Follow the hall. It will eventually lead you to a switch. Press the switch to reverse the direction of the conveyor belt. Head back to where you entered the room.
- Run south. Defeat the two Laser Guards that attack your party. Push the switch on the wall to the left. This will deactivate the red laser blocking your way. Continue to your left, across the conveyor belt, to the other side.
- Open the compartment to the right of the door. This next part is tricky. Head south on the conveyor belt (you will be running against the direction it is going). Step off the conveyor belt to your right at the next opportunity. You will now be in the first area of the map.
- Remember the compartment that charges Robo with electricity? Head back to it. All you have to do is follow the path you are on as it heads south, left, and then north.
- Step into the compartment. Now quickly retrace your steps back to the conveyor belt. Run up the conveyor belt and turn left at the first opportunity. Step into the compartment you opened earlier to open the sealed door. Walk through the doorway.
- You will find another Sentinel in this room. Collect the Turbo Ether and Hi-Ether from the treasure chests to the right. Now walk to the Sentinel. It will begin following you.
- Remember the hallway where the Sentinel blocked you from getting the second figurine? Head back there (run down the conveyor belt and then follow the path all the way to the left side of the screen).
- Walk toward the Sentinel that is blocking you. When the two Sentinels face one another they will deactivate. Collect the figurine. Open the nearby treasure chest to find a Vigilant's Hat.
- Head back south and follow the path to the right. Stop when you you see the twinkling chute that takes you back to the beginning of the level. Enter the door northwest of it. Step back onto the elevator to take you to the next level.
- Head south, past the Save Point. Destroy the two Laser Guards that attack. Open the treasure chest in the lower right hand corner of the screen to obtain a Lapis. Head to your left, into the next room.
- As you enter the next room you will encounter a pink clone of Robo named Atropos. You will have to face Atropos one on one as Robo.
- TIP: Atropos uses the same techniques as Robo. Her usual pattern is to attack and then heal with Cure Beam. The only attack you really have to watch out for is Robo Tackle which does about 350 HP in damage (depending upon your armor, helm, etc.). She will frequently use Proximity Bomb, but if you have Ruby Armor equipped this will do minimum damage. The best techniques to use against her are Robo Tackle and Rapid-fire Punch. Heal if necessary. After she falls she will give you Atropos's Ribbon which raises Robo's speed by 3 and magic defense by 10.
- You will see a door covered in lasers to your north. Walk up to the the control panel to the right of the door. Robo will jump up and deactivate the lasers. Enter the door. Open the treasure chest you find inside to obtain a Megaelixir. Walk back to the previous room.
- Head left to the next room.
- Follow the path until you get to the top of a staircase. Walk down the stairs. Follow the pathway until you reach a treasure chest. Open it to collect 15,000 gold. Now head back to the top of the stairs.
- Head north. Defeat the six Laser Guards that attack. Head north and defeat the six additional Laser Guards that attack.
- You will see two green circles. They are on either side of the large door ahead. Place one figurine on each circle. This causes the door to open. Run through the door. Get ready to fight Mother Brain!
- TIP: Mother Brain has more bark than bite. Be sure to destroy the three computers behind her first. Each one heals her to the tune of 1,000 HP. Afterward concentrate on her with powerful attacks. Crono's Luminaire spell works well. She will cast a fire spell that hits all characters and deals about 50-80 HP. Heal if necessary, keep attacking, and you eventually put down this maniacal machine for good.
- After defeating Mother Brain, Robo will receive his two ultimate weapons, the Teraton Arm and Crisis Arm. Robo shuts down all of the machines in the Geno Dome forever. The game will automatically take you back to the overworld.
- NOTE: The Teraton Arm is Robo's strongest weapon overall. The Crisis Arm has more of a gimmick to it. The last digit of Robo's HP determines the damage it inflicts.
