Manolia Cathedral
- YouTube: The Cathedral! (Time: 10:41)
- Walk forward to the altar. Talk to the nun near the organ. You will see a shiny object on the ground in front of the altar. Pick it up. It's the queen's hairpin.
- The four nuns will turn into monsters. These hags will constantly cast Slow on Crono and Lucca, slowing down their ATB gauges. Use Panaceas to cure this status ailment. Use Crono's cyclone ability to attack two monsters at once. Concentrate Lucca and Crono's attacks on one fiend at a time to eliminate them.
- Afterward a cut scene will introduce Frog. When prompted, elect to accompany Frog. He becomes a party member and the game allows you to name him.
- Walk to the organ. Press A to play it. This reveals a secret door to the right of the altar. Enter the door.
- Turn right. Fight the three gargoyle creatures that confront you. Continue down the hall. Collect the Potion and Athenian Water from the two treasure chests along the way. Fight the next group of gargoyles. Walk through the door at the end of the hall.
- You will now be in a large hallway. Walk up the stairs directly ahead of you. Once at the top, follow the path around to the right. At the end of the path will be a treasure chest with a Steel Sabre inside. Equip it to Crono.
- Head back to the top of the stairs and walk through the nearby door.
- You will be in a room that contains three treasure chests. Collect all the items from the chests. One will be a Maiden's Suit. Equip this to Lucca. Try to take the Naga's Bromide from underneath the clock. When you do three enemies will appear. Defeat them. Exit the room.
- Walk down the stairs and turn right. Continue down the hallway. Fight the two gargoyles you encounter. Continue forward until you see another set of stairs. Walk up the stairs. Defeat the two snake creatures you come across.
- Walk through the door at the top of the stairs. Talk to the three monsters inside. One (the gargoyle creature) will leave. Follow him out.
- Follow him north and through the door he enters.
- You will see three humans inside. Two look like the king and queen. Take the items from the treasure chests and talk to all three. Try to leave and the three will morph into the snake creatures from earlier. Defeat all three and exit.
- Walk down the stairs to the large hallway between the two staircases. Head north. Defeat the myriad of enemies that are in your way. Exit through the doors at the end of the hall.
- You will see your first Save Point to the left of the stairs ahead. Save your game. Run up the stairs.
- You will see a door at the top of the stairs. Don't enter this yet. Instead, turn left and collect the Shelter from the treasure chest. Walk down the stairs you see here. A trap will activate and you will slide down the stairs. Either ignore or fight the sleeping enemy at the bottom of the stairs. Walk through the door.
- You will enter a room that contains a number of bats flying around. Avoid the bats (unless you want to fight them) and make your way to the door on the far end of the room. Press A at the skull switch to the right of the door. Enter the door.
- Follow the hallway to the right. Several enemies will appear (three Underlings, one Mad Bat). Defeat them. Collect the Potion and Panacea from the nearby treasure chests.
- Walk further down the hall. You will see an Underling rolling across the hallway ahead. Fight him or run past him. Either way turn south at the end of the hall and walk through the door.
- You will emerge into a room full of bats and gargoyle creatures. Press the skull switch to the left of the door. Run through the hall (you can avoid fighting the creatures if you don't touch them).
- Once out the door, avoid the bat that flies nearby. Run up the stairs and turn left. Walk through the door at the top of the stairs.
- This new room contains and altar and an organ. Fight and defeat the three Underlings and two gargoyle creatures that attack. Collect the Iron Sword from the treasure chest to the right. Equip it to Frog. Play the organ. This opens a door somewhere off-screen. Exit the room.
- From the top of the stairs, turn left and head down the stairs in the next screen. Walk through the passageway.
- Head back through the room full of bats and out the other side of the room.
- Turn right and walk along the back hall. You will see a newly revealed door at the center of the hall. Walk through it.
- You will emerge into a hallway. Run between the two Underlings patrolling the hall. You will run into two serpentine women with the Underlings following behind. Kill the two Underlings first, and then the serpentine women. Proceed forward. You will encounter two more Underlings at the end of the hall. Kill them. Save the game at the save point to the left and then walk through the door they were guarding.

Boss - Yakra
- YouTube: Boss Battle:Yakra! Queen Leene and Marle are safe! (Time: 10:43)
- Run forward into the room. You will see the Chancellor talking to Queen Leene. The queen will flee and the chancellor will turn into a monster named Yakra.
- Yakra has a few methods of attack. Most of them do negligible damage (20 HP or less). He can pounce on a single character. Additionally, he can bounce around the room or pound the ground. Both attacks damage all three characters. At a range he will also spit out a cannonball.
- His most damaging attack by far (roughly 50 HP) is when Yakra shoots needles from his back. This will target one specific character. Basically his strategy is to slowly whittle down your characters' HP with mass attacks and then finish them off with the needle barrage. Be wary of this and keep your characters healthy.
- There's not a lot of deep strategy to this fight. It's really a war of attrition. Keep using the double tech between Crono and Frog called X-Strike. It will deal about 175 HP worth of damage to Yakra. Use Lucca to either provide healing items or use Flamethrower on Yakra. Use Frog's Slurp ability to heal if necessary. Keep hammering away at him (while healing) and eventually Yakra will go the way of the dodo.
- Once you've defeated Yakra, Queen Leene will reappear and invite the trio back to the castle.
- Search the two chests on either side of the altar. One will contain the kidnapped chancellor, the second a Mid-Ether.
- Run to the entrance of the room and talk to Queen Leene.
-
Return to Guardia Castle
- Frog will leave your party after a brief cut scene. Talk to the Queen. She will ask about Princess Nadia (Marle).
- Return to the upstairs room where you witnessed Marle disappear. When you arrive you will witness Marle reappear. When she asks whether or not you would have shown her around the fair, answer "Yes, I would have." Marle will rejoin your party.
- Run downstairs and exit the throne room. Talk to Frog on the steps. Exit the castle.
- Walk to Guardia Forest.
- Navigate your way through Guardia Forest. You will have to fight a few monsters along the way.
- Return to Truce Canyon (north of the village).
- Once back at Truce Canyon, return to where Crono first entered 600 A.D.
- The three heroes will be transported back to 1,000 A.D.
-
Prelude
- YouTube: The Trial! OBJECTION! (Time: 8:13)
- You will arrive back at the fairgrounds. Lucca will leave. Crono is tasked with returning Marle home to the castle. Head south until you exit to the fairgrounds to the overworld.
- NOTE: Be sure to stop by the swordsmith in Leene Square to buy the Silver Sword for Crono.
- Once back at the overworld, head west toward Guardia Forest.
- NOTE: You may want to stop by the town market to buy equipment for Marle.
- Head north through Guardia Forest. You can evade the monsters here if you wish. Once back at the overworld, enter Guardia Castle.
- Once you enter the castle, Crono will be arrested for kidnapping the princess.
-
Trial of Crono
- NOTE: The trial is mostly out of your hands. Just read the dialogue, and answer the questions as described below. This is where your earlier actions at the fair factor into the game.
- When the chancellor asks "Who was responsible for initiating contact?" Select "I was."
- When he asks "Her fortune did tempt you, did it not, Crono?" reply "No." He will rephrase and ask the question again. Reply, "Not at all."
- At this point the jurors will trickle in and render the verdict. In all likelihood you will be found Not Guilty. Nevertheless, you will be thrown in jail (so much for justice).
-
-
Escape from Prison
- YouTube: Prison Break (Time: 10:22)
- Crono will awaken in a jail cell. Save your game at the Save Point in the room. The cup in the room will replenish your HP/MP. A red sack will be laying on your bed (this is only here if you were an upstanding citizen). There are two Ethers inside.
- Walk forward and rattle the cell door. Do this three times and one of the guards will open the door and hit Crono. Once his back is turned, knock him over the head. Run out of the cell and fight the remaining guard. Once he is defeated, exit through the passage behind him (on your right).
- Run through the next room, up the steps, and down to the other side. Ignore the shield carrying enemies for now.
- You will be on a walkway. Run to your right and exit the other side.
- Run through the hallway until you encounter a guard. Defeat him. Unlock the cell he was guarding. Enter the cell. Inside will be a room containing four treasure chests. Loot the chests, then return to the hallway. Exit back the way you came. Before you can leave a huge guard with a mace will block your way. Fight him and he will eventually run off.
- Backtrack until you get to the room with the two Shield Guards. Touch them to fight them. Don't attack until the the guards to look out from behind their shields.
- Run up the newly accessible stairs to the right.
- Run accross the walkway. Fight the two guards you encounter.
- In this next hallway you will see an armored guard who will look in various directions as he stands. Wait until he is facing away from you, then run up and hit A to knock him out. Alternatively, you can fight him if you want the experience points.
- Keep running down the hall and you will see another guard. Knock him out (or fight) as well. Open the cell door he was guarding. Enter the cell.
- Talk to the man imprisoned in the guillotine. His name is Fritz. Elect to free him. Open the nearby chest to receive a Mid-Potion. Open the cell to the north and enter the next room.
- Fight the two skeletons (the Wind Slash attack works well against them). Now collect the Bronze Armor from the treasure chest. Return to the hallway where you encounter the last guard.
- Walk to the left, then take the passage that heads north. Follow the passage around and fight the guard at its end. Exit.
- Run across the walkway to the next structure.
- You will be in another room with shield guards. Ignore them and exit through the passage on the left hand side. You will be in another hallway lined with cells. Open the first cell door and open the treasure chest to receive a Shelter.
- Return to the room with the Shield Guards. Fight them. Exit up the stairs to the right.
- Run up the next two sets of stairs.
- Defeat the two guards at the top of the stairs. Exit through the wooden door.
- In the next room Lucca will appear to rescue you. She will join your party. Save the game with the save point behind the desk.
- NOTE: Before leaving, read the note on the floor. It reveals information about the Dragon Tank (a boss you will soon face). It says that the head of the tank replenishes the body and is only vulnerable to swords. Take note of this. Exit up the stairs ahead.
- Run across the walkway.
-
Boss - Dragon Tank
- YouTube: Boss Batlle:Dragon Tank! To the Future! (Time: 10:55)
- The tank has three primary methods of attack: a will charge that will hit both Crono and Lucca (deals around 35 HP in damage), fire breathe (20 HP), and missiles (roughly 15-20 HP). Once you get the tank down to just the body it will also begin to unleash a laser attack on a single party member (25-30 HP).
- Focus on the head of the tank first. Keep in mind that special attacks won't deal significant damage to it. Once that is done, focus on the wheel. Disabling the wheel will prevent the tank from charging. Finally aim for the body of the tank.
- TIP: Use Crono for offense and Lucca for dispensing healing items.
-
Escape from the Castle
- Run across the bridge of men to the other side.
- Run down the stairs until you reach the throne room (stop at the first room you pass and get the Shelter from the treasure chest). Exit once you reach the room with the two guards in purple guarding the door. Run through the guards, they will follow you.
- Follow the path down and to the right. Run toward the castle's exit. Eventually Marle will appear and intercede.
- You will eventually appear in Guardia Forest. Run to the right as the guards chase you.
- Eventually you will reach a clearing with a time portal. Run to the portal and press A to enter.
