This is the last part of our complete Chrono Trigger DS game guide, featuring Lost Sanctum.
Guide written by [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=4500 David Taylor]

Lost Sanctum
The Lost Sanctum is located in both 65,000,000 B.C. and 600 AD. The former is in the northeast portion of the map. The latter is just north of Ozzie's Fort. Both are indicated by a green portal on the overworld screen. They become accessible after you reclaim the Epoch from Dalton.
You cannot yet access the Lost Sanctum in 600 A.D. (you can try if you want, but you won't be able to go far). Instead head to the Lost Sanctum in 65,000,000 B.C. and enter.
Run forward from the teleporter and exit to the next area. You will enter a large room that is seemingly uninhabited. Head all the way to the right side of the map and climb up the stairs you find there (NOT the stairs in the middle of the map). You will enter a wooded area similar to Guardia Forest.
Ignore the chest on your left. You cannot yet reach it. Instead follow the path to the right. Keep going until you encounter some Ogans. Your party members will mention that they should clear out the monsters. Engage the Ogans. These are Ogan Youth. Defeat the one with the hammer first before the unarmed versions.
Keep following the path. Eventually you will see a Slate Imp standing out all by his lonesome in a clearing. Engage the imp. A Pink Imp and Ogan Youth will join the fray. Defeat all of them with normal attacks. Afterward open the nearby treasure chest to get a Hi-Potion.
Continue to the right, along the path. You will eventually see a Slate Imp and Pink Imp seemingly conversing. Engage them. You will have to fight a total of 2 Slate Imps, 2 Pink Imps, and 2 Ogan Youth. Use a tech to quickly eliminate several of them at once. Pick off any stragglers.
Continue south. Engage the Ogan Youth you see. You will fight both the Ogan Youth and an Ogan Chieftan. Take them out with normal attacks.
TIP: See the dark splotches on the ground near where you just fought the two Ogans? There will be three on the left of varying sizes. There will be a secret passage near the smallest one (near the treeline). This takes you to the treasure chest you saw at the beginning of the area. Inside the chest is 20,000 gold.
Continue along the path. It will begin stretching north. Eventually you will be attacked by two Ogan Youths and two Ogan Chieftans. Use a massive magic attack to defeat them all at once.
After you defeat them your characters will comment that they should return to the cave settlement (the uninhabited area from earlier).
Retrace your steps back to the cave.
Run down to the cave floor. Run to your left. Eventually a Reptite will appear. Don't worry, he's friendly. He thanks you for exterminating the monsters in the forest and gives you the Dragon's Tear. He will then ask if you would like to help further. Say "yes" when prompted.
NOTE: Now you may come back to the Reptites any time you would like. Talk to various Reptites in the area and they will give you quests to perform. These quests are detailed below.
NOTE: There is a Save Point on the left side of this area. Use this each time you complete one of the Reptites' missions.
Golden Hammer
Talk to the Reptite in the southwest portion of the cave. Agree to search for the Golden Hammer.
Head to your right. You will eventually see a large hole along the cave's southern wall (directly south of the first staircase). Exit the cave via the hole.
You are now outdoors. This area is called The Great Southern Swamp (remember this name for this is how it will be known for the rest of the walkthrough). Follow the path south as far as you can go. Turn right. Fight and defeat the three Kingfrogs that patrol the area.
Run to the right and then begin heading south. Go as far as you can go. Collect the Shelter from the treasure chest on your right. Now head left.
Eventually you will reach another clearing where you will see two Kingfrogs patrolling. Engage the Kingfrogs. Two Reptite-looking creatures called Exiles will also join the fight. Use normal attacks to defeat them.
After defeating these enemies, head to the right. You will see a glowing object in the bushes. Walk over to the object and press A to collect Golden Sand.
Retrace your steps back and re-enter the Reptites' cave.
Remember the sapling you saw in the forest where you defeated all the monsters? Head to the northeast portion of the cave, run up the stairs, and exit.
Follow the path back to the sapling. You will encounter several groups of monsters along the way. Fear not though since they are the same foes you fought last time (Ogan Youths, Slate Imps, etc.). Press A on the sapling. Elect to sprinkle the Golden Sand on it.
Backtrack to the cave and then exit to where you landed the Epoch. Enter the Epoch and warp to 600 A.D. Land and re-enter the Lost Sanctum.
When you re-enter the cave, you will encounter a group of Reptites that recognize you as the heroes who saved their village long ago. They will ask if they can contract your help. Answer "yes." The purple Reptite will ask you to vanquish the monsters in the woods.
Make your way to the woods. The exit is in the same location as 65,000,000 B.C.
Follow the path. Engage the Slate and Pink Imp you see wandering about. You will have to fight an additional one of each type (for a total of four). Defeat them and continue following the path through the woods.
You will eventually see another Slate Imp wandering around all by his lonesome. Run up and engage him. You will be forced to fight three Slate Imps in total along with a single Pink Imp. After defeating them check the nearby treasure chest for a Shelter. Continue following the path.
You will come to another Slate Imp. Engage him and defeat the three Pink Imps that join the fray.
TIP: As your proceed down the path, check for a secret passage through the trees. It will be in the same spot as before. This leads you to a treasure chest containing 25,000 gold.
Engage the Jackpot (vase looking creature) you see. You will have to fight two Jackpots, a Slate Imp, and a Pink Imp. The Jackpots seem resistant to physical damage, so cast a powerful magic spell that destroys all four enemies at once.
The last two foes you encounter before you reach the area with the sapling are an Ogan Youth and Ogan Chieftan. Eliminate them as you did their kin.
Your party will find the sapling gone. Suddenly, however, an Ogan will emerge holding the Golden Hammer. He fleas, forcing you to find him.
Wander back through the forest. Eventually the Ogan, called Goldhammer will attack. This is technically a boss fight. The only thing worth nothing, however, is that the monster will erect a physical barrier, which means he is weak to magical attacks. When this occurs use all your best spells against him. One or two hits with powerful level three spells like Luminaire will quickly slay him. Afterward you receive the Golden Hammer.
Return to the Reptites' cave. Climb down to the cave floor. Talk to the purple Reptite. He will give you a Megaelixir as your reward for killing the monsters.
Exit the cave. Enter the Epoch and warp to 65,000,000 B.C. Land and enter the Lost Sanctum.
Return to the Reptite in the southwest corner of the screen. Talk to him. Agree to give him the Gold Hammer. He will give you 100,000 gold in return.
Prismastone
Go to the Lost Sanctum (Reptite Cave) in 65,000,000 B.C. Talk to the Reptite immediately to the right of where you enter (he's in the northwest corner of the map). He says his daughter is sick and is in need of something called the Prismastone. Agree to help him.
Enter the Great Southern Swamp. Head to the southeast portion of the map. Follow the trail that leads off to the right. Exit to the next area.
You will see an oddly colored Nu blocking the path ahead. Walk forward and talk to the Nu. It says you must beat it in combat to pass. Get ready to fight.
This creature is called the Nu Guardian. It will mostly try to cast status spells like Stop and Sleep. If you have status protecting helms then you should be safe. If not then use Panaceas to cure these conditions. The only other thing to watch out for is an attack that will bring a single party member down to 1 HP. If this happens, then simply heal this party member and keep up the fight. The strategy here is simple - keep attacking the Nu Guardian with techs until he flees.
The path is now clear. Follow the path and climb up the rope ladder. This area is called Mount Emerald. You will become quite familiar with it as you complete missions for the Reptites. Trust me.
You will see a bird with a bell ahead. This creature is a Jadewing. Engage it in combat. It has a really high evasion from physical attacks, so use a magic attack like Lightning II to defeat it.
Head down the rope ladder to the right of where you fought the Jadewing. You can now run across a bridge to the right or climb down another rope ladder. Climb down the ladder. Open the treasure chest you find to collect 10,000 gold. Now climb back up the ladder and run across the bridge.
You will see a Slate Imp standing all by his lonesome. Open the treasure chest south of the imp to receive a Shelter. Engage the imp if you wish or simply run past him. If you choose to fight then you must defeat two Slate Imps and a Jadewing. Either way, head up the ladder to the north of where the imp was/is standing.
Cross the bridge to the left. Open the treasure chest to find an Elixir. Climb down the rope ladder near the chest. Climb up another rope ladder. You will see a Slate Imp standing in the path. You can either engage it or run past it to the next rope ladder.
Climb to the top of the next rope ladder. Head to the right and cross another bridge. Follow the path as it leads you up to more rope ladders. There will be a Save Point at the top of the second ladder. Save your game. Now cross the bridge to your left. Follow the path and exit the screen.
Climb up the rope ladder and then cross a bridge to your right. You will see an Exile patrolling on the path ahead. You can evade or fight him. Either way climb up the next rope ladder. Continue up the ladders and you will eventually cross a small bridge on your left.
After you cross the small bridge you will be forced into a fight with a Jadewing and two Hercules Beetles. Quickly cast a magic spell that will (presumably) hurt them all. This will eliminate the Jadewing but not damage to the beetles. Use normal attacks to take out the insects.
The rope ladder to your south will lead you to a treasure chest. Inside is an Aeonian Helm (probably useless at this point, depending upon how far you are in the main game). If you decide to collect it, then afterward return to the area where you fought the two beetles. Run across the bridge to your north.
Head across a small bridge to your right. Climb up the rope ladder. Open the treasure chest at the top to get a Hi-Potion. Continue up the next rope ladder.
Cross the bridge to your left and climb down the next rope ladder. There will be an Exile at the bottom of the ladder. You can avoid or engage him (if you choose to fight you will face both the Exile and two Hercules Beetles). Either way head to your left and climb up the next rope ladder.
Keep following the path. You will climb up several more rope ladders. Open the treasure chest on the last patch of grass you reach to find an Aeonian Suit. Climb up the last ladder to exit the area.
You will see a Hercules Beetle ahead as well as a Save Point. Engage/avoid the beetle and save your game. Now head to your right, across the bridge. Continue to your right and exit to the next screen.
Head across the bridge ahead. Keep following the path and you will come to the Prismastone. Collect the stone.
Backtrack all the way back down the mountain (sorry, there is no short-cut) and re-enter the Reptite's cave. Talk to the Reptite that gave you the Prismastone mission. Give him the Primastone. He will give you a Capsule Set as a reward. It contains 2 Strength Capsules, 2 Magic Capsules, and 2 Speed Capsules.
Saintstone
NOTE: You must first complete the Prismastone mission described above before you can access this quest.
Head to 65,000,000 B.C. Enter the Inner Sanctum. Talk to the Reptite in the far east of the cave. He is directly to the left of the stairs that led to the forest where you eliminated all the monsters.
This Reptite will notice you have the Prismastone. He will tell you that the Prismastone is one half of two sacred stones that are enshrined in the village sanctuary. He says that if the two stones are put together they will form a stone of even greater power. Agree to try to show the Reptite the elusive gem. In other words, you just committed to finding the second gemstone.
Run to the staircases at the center of the cave. Run up the stairs and exit through the doorway at the top. Run forward. You will see two stone tables. This is the sanctuary that the Reptite mentioned. Set the Prismastone on the table to the right.
Exit the Inner Sanctum. Enter the Epoch and warp to 600 A.D. Re-enter the Inner Sanctum.
Run back up the stairs to the sanctuary. The purple village elder will be blocking the entrance. He says that you must find the Reptmark in the northern wood before he will let you inside.
The northern wood is where you previously fought the monsters. Head up the stairs on the east side of the cave and exit to the wood.
Run all the way to the farthest northwest point on the screen. You will encounter some token opposition along the way which shouldn't be much trouble. Once you arrive you will see something glowing behind the bushes. Walk up to it and press A to collect the Reptmark.
Exit the northern wood and make your way back to the village elder. Talk to the elder. He will let you enter the sanctuary.
Enter the sanctuary and take the Prismastone. Exit the Reptite cave back to the overworld. Enter the Epoch and warp to 65,000,000 B.C.
Enter the Lost Sanctum. Re-enter the sanctuary. Place the Prismastone you got in 600 A.D. on the left table. The two Prismastones will merge to form the Saintstone. Your party will automatically take it.
Exit the sanctuary and return to the Reptite who originally gave you the mission. Talk to him. He will give you a Dragon Arm for your troubles. This is a weapon upgrade for Robo.
Lonely Figure
- Board the Epoch and travel to 600 A.D. Enter the Inner Sanctum. Talk to the Reptite in the southwest corner. He will be in the same place as the Reptite in 65,000,000 B.C. who asked you to retrieve the Golden Hammer.
- This Reptite will mention that there is a "strange character" waiting at the base of the mountain to the southeast. This character has been waiting a long time for a "strong person." The Reptite asks you to help this lonely soul. Agree to help the lonely figure.
- Exit the cave the same way you would if you were going to the Great Southern Swamp. Instead of a swamp, however, you will enter a forest area called the Southern Glade.
- Make your way to the southeast portion of the map. Along the way you may encounter enemies like Dire Rats and Kingfrogs. Both can be easily dealt with using normal attacks. You will see a treasure chest when you reach the southwest corner. Open it to receive a Shelter. Continue along the path until you exit to another area.
- You will recognize this area from the Prismastone quest. Once again their is a Nu blocking your path. Talk to the Nu. This was the lonely creature the Reptite was talking about. He says he has been waiting to fight you since your last encounter (thousands of years ago!). He leaves after saying he will be waiting for you at the top of Mount Emerald.
- Head up the rope ladder to the left of where the Nu was standing. Make your way to the right side of the screen. Be sure to stop along the way and open the green chest you find. Inside will be 30,000 gold. When you reach the right hand side you will see the rope ladder has been cut, preventing you from climbing further.
- Head back to the Southern Glade. Once there, head to the northeast corner of the map. You will see something shining in the grass. Press A on where it is shining to collect the Sturdy Vines. Before you leave check southwest of where you are standing. You will find a treasure chest with 50,000 gold inside. Now run back to the severed rope bridge.
- Once you get there one of your party members will note that you need to hang the vines from above, but there is not way to reach the upper ledge. Leave the area and exit the Inner Sanctum to the overworld. Board the Epoch and travel to 65,000,000 B.C.
- Head through the Great Southern Swamp and to the same area where the rope bridge is cut in the future. Head up the ladder that exist in this time period. When you reach the top your characters will automatically stretch out a new ladder.
- Exit the area and head back to the overworld. Enter the Epoch and warp to 600 A.D.
- Enter the Lost Sanctum. Return to the area with the collapsed ladder. The ladder you installed in 65,000,000 B.C. will now be present (talk about durable!). Climb up the ladder.
- The mountain will be much the same as when you scaled it during the Prismastone mission. This includes many of the same enemies. Make your way up the mountain and fight the enemies you encounter as desired/needed. Open the treasure chests you come across along the way. One to look out for is a chest on the the left side of the second screen. This contains a Rainbow Helm (halves light damage). Check the northeast corner of the same screen for a treasure chest containing a Mermaid Helm (halves water damage).
- Eventually you will reach the top of the mountain. The Nu will be waiting for you. Get ready to fight!
- The Nu is now called the Nu Master - and it shows! This guy is hardly the pushover you fought thousands of years ago. Here are some of the deadlier things in his arsenal:
- Devil's Drop - halves the target's HP.
- Life Shaver - reduces a target to 1 HP.
- Death's Rainbow - instantly disables a party member!
- In addition he will counter each of your attacks by sucking a few hundred hit points away from the attacking character.
- Keep up the attack and heal when necessary. Use double and triple techs when possible. The object here is to deal him more damage than he is dealing to your party. Robo's Heal spell will come in useful here so the Nu Master doesn't drain your health too far. Crono and Marle's revive spells also come in handy as a way to counter Death's Rainbow. If you are using Frog or Ayla and he uses the Life Shaver, then counter with Frog Squash or Dino Tail respectively.
- After you defeat him the Nu Master will agree to be your friend. He asks if you ever need anything then to let him know.
- Save your game and backtrack to the Reptite's cave. Talk to the Reptite that gave you the mission. He/she/it will give you Nova Armor as a reward.
Bridge Builder
Enter the Lost Sanctum in 600 A.D. Talk to the Reptite on the ground level, in the far eastern portion of the cave. He's to the left of the stairs that lead to the Millennia Wood.
He says his great dream is to build a bridge between the mountains. He laments that he does not have the tools to complete the task. He needs sturdy lumber for the frame, strong metal, and a durable hammer. Agree to look for these materials.
Head south and enter the Southern Glade.
Head to the northwest portion of the area. There is no direct route, so you will have to first go south, as if you were going back to the mountain with the Nu Guardian, and then head to the left once you get to the southern edge of the screen. You will encounter Dire Rats and Exiles along the way. Once you get to the northwest corner you will see a path that leads off to the left. Follow the path to exit to the next screen.
You will be inside a cave known as the Winding Passage. Head along the path to the left. You will eventually see a bat patrolling the hall ahead. Three other bats rest nearby. Engage the patrolling bat and defeat all four of these Black Bats. They will mostly try to cast a status spell on you, which you can prevent if you have status protecting helms. Afterward check the narrow black strip of rock to your right. You will find a secret passage which takes you to a room with a treasure chest inside of it. Inside the chest is a Lapis.
Continue to your left. You will see three Exiles that you can either avoid or fight. Continue to follow the path.
TIP: Head south once you reach the first torch after the Exiles. You will reach a dead end. Check the wall to your left for a secret passage. This leads to another small room with a treasure chest inside of it. Inside the chest is a Turbo Ether.
You will eventually see a purple monster, called a Deathcreeper, standing on a rock pedestal. You can either head north or through a doorway to the left of the Deathcreeper. Ignore the doorway to the left. Instead, head north, past the slumbering Black Bat.
Enter the doorway that leads to the right. This will bring you to a cave with a treasure chest inside of it. Open the chest to obtain the Steel Ingot. This is one of the three elements the Reptite needs for the bridge.
Run back through the cave and exit to the Southern Glade. Run back through the glade and re-enter the Reptite cave.
Give the Reptite the Steel Ingot.
Exit the Reptite cave and board the Epoch. Warp to 65,000,000 B.C. Re-enter the Lost Sanctum during this time period.
Talk to the Reptite in the southwest corner of the cave. He is the one for whom you retrieved the Golden Hammer. He will let you borrow the Golden Hammer. Now you have two of the elements the Reptite in 600 A.D. needs.
Enter the Millenia Wood in this time period. Once you enter the wood, head right. Talk to the Reptite you find hanging out. He will give you some lumber (called Godwood) to use.
Now you have all the elements the Reptite needs to build the bridge. Warp back to 600 A.D., re-enter the Lost Sanctum, and talk to the bridge-building Reptite who gave you the mission. He will take the Godwood and Golden Hammer and give you a Haste Helm as a reward.
Waystone/Dark Cave
- Enter the Lost Sanctum in 65,000,000 B.C. Wade through the Great Southern Swamp and return to Mount Emerald in this time period.
- Scale Mount Emerald and return to the place where you obtained the Prismastone. Place the Sandstone where you found the Prismastone.
- Climb back down Mount Emerald. Exit the Lost Sanctum. Warp to 600 A.D. Climb back to the top of Mount Emerald. Return to the place where you left the Sandstone. It is now called the Waystone. Pick it up.
- Climb back down Mount Emerald. Exit the Lost Sanctum. Warp to 65,000,000 B.C. Re-enter the Lost Sanctum.
- Talk to the Reptite in the southeast corner of the cave. Agree to use the Waystone to explore the cave.
- Exit to the Great Southern Swamp. Once there, make your way to the northwest portion of the screen. Exit the area via the path on your left.
- You will be back in the Winding Passage. Head left, along the pathway. You will encounter a Black Bat along the way. It shouldn't give you any trouble.
- TIP: The secret passages that were present when you obtained the Steel Ingot here in 600 A.D. will also be present in this time period. Check them for items.
- Exit the cave through the doorway to the left of the Deathcreeper. Remember you can evade fighting the Deathcreeper by running around it to the south.
- Run forward until you reach a castle-like area. Save your game using the Save Point on your left. Run up the stairs.
- You will see a dinosaur skull ahead. Eventually three enemies called Twin Snakes will attack. They aren't a big deal. They will mostly bite you and try to cast fire spells. Eliminate them with normal attacks and basic techs.
- After defeating the Twin Snakes, your party will automatically be taken back to the village to warn the Reptite's of the impending invasion. You will agree to defend their village. In return they will give you the Judgement Scythe (for Magus).
- Return to the Winding Passage. As soon as you enter you will encounter a new enemy called a Chrysosoaur. Electricity is ineffective against these dinos so instead use physical attacks. Try to eliminate it before it casts Lock and disables your tech abilities.
- Continue forward, through the cave. You will encounter another Chrysosaur or two. Exit the cave via the doorway at its end.
- Run forward to where you fought the trio of Twin Snakes. Enter the dinosaur skull.
- Open the two egg-shaped chests ahead of your. Run up the stairs located in the upper right portion of the screen.
- Follow the path as it heads south and then left. You will be ambushed by two Chrysosaurs. Concentrate on eliminating one at a time with physical techs. Afterward you will be given the choice of heading left or north. Head left. Walk down the stairs at the end of the path.
- Open all the treasure chests in this room. The middle chest will contain a new weapon for Lucca called the Turboshot. Exit via the stairs in the upper right portion of the room.
- Head south. Defeat the Chrysosaur and two Twin Snakes that attack. Continue south and exit to the next area.
- You will emerge from a dinosaur skull. You are now north of where you previously fought the two Chrysosaur. There will be stairs on both your left and right. Take either set of stairs.
- You will come to a room that contains three wooden doors. Walk through the door on the left.
- Run forward and you will encounter three Black Bats and three Twin Snakes. Use a spell to quickly eliminate all of them at once. Open the treasure chest to your right. Continue along the path ahead. Eventually you will reach a dead end. Open the treasure chest you find at the dead end to receive Dragon Armor.
- Return to the room with the three doors. Now enter the middle door.
- Run up the stairs ahead. You will enter a large room. Continue forward and you will find a Save Point. Save your game. You can now go either left or right. Go left. Follow the path until you exit the area.
- You will be outside. Run south along the walkway. You will encounter three creatures called Pterranyx. Defeat them using normal attacks. Afterward continue south and open the treasure chest at the end of the walkway. Inside is the Stardust Bow (a weapon for Marle).
- Backtrack to the large room where you last saved the game. This time head to your right. Follow the path until you exit the area.
- You will once again be outside. Head south and then left. Defeat the two Pterranyx that attack. Head north and re-enter the castle.
- Once you enter the room you will see two Twin Snakes patrolling in front of you. Engage or avoid the Twin Snakes. Head north and up the stairs.
- You will enter a room that contains four Twin Snakes. Once again you can either evade or engage them. Head up the stairs on the right.
- You will enter a room that is nearly identical to the last (except it contains no enemies). Head up the stairs on the right.
- You will enter a room with two Chrysosaurs. Evade or fight them and head up the stairs on the right.
- Your party will be outside the castle. You will see Black Bats and Pterranyxes patrolling the area. Run to your right. Fight the three Black Bats and three Pterranyx that attack. Continue to the right. Open the chest at the end of the walkway to obtain the Reptite Dress.
- Return to the room where you saw the two Chrysosaurs. This time head south to the opposite side of the room and exit through the passageway between the two torches.
- Follow the hallway until you reach a Save Point. Save your game. Enter the wooden door at the end of the hallway.
- In this throne room your party will encounter two creatures called Archaeofangs. These creatures are the area's bosses. Get ready to rumble!
- Here are some notes on the Archaeofangs:
- TIP: Perhaps the best party combination for this fight is Crono, Ayla, and Magus.
- As you may expect, the red Archaeofang will take more damage from water-based attacks and gain life from fire attacks. The blue Archaeofang takes more damage from fire-based attacks and gains life from water/ice attacks.
- These guy's attacks are fairly tame. They will cast their own version of Dark Matter on you, as well as a fire attack called Volcano and and dual magic attack. Keep your health up with items/healing spells and use Barrier Spheres if and when necessary.
- Pretty much any attack against either enemy will result in them countering with Osmose. This takes away about 10 MP at a time, so have those Turbo Ethers handy.
- The most annoying thing about these two is that once you defeat one Archaefang, the second can revive its brother using an ability called Soul Link. The way to prevent this is to use attacks that hit them both at once. Remember, however, not to use fire or water based attacks. Hit them with Falcon Strike if you have both Crono and Ayla in your party. This will deal massive damage to both. Luminaire and Dark Matter also work well against them. More than likely one will fall before the other. When this occurs, simply unload on the single Archaeofang. Hopefully you can kill it before it revives its counterpart.
- The game will automatically take you back to the Reptite cave after you defeat the Archaeofangs. The Reptites will give you a Valor Crest for saving their village. This item boosts the wearer's critical hit rate and gives him or her a 50% counterattack rate. Not bad.
Bridge Builder Part II
Talk to the Reptite to the left of where the bridge builder lived. He will ask you to check on the bridge building Reptite. He says that the bridge builder should be on Mount Emerald.
Scale Mount Emerald. Talk to the Nu you previously defeated (he will be sleeping and blocking a bridge the leads to the left). He will let your party pass.
Head across the bridge to the left. Exit to the next screen.
You will emerge into a cave. Head north. You will go up a flight of stairs. Exit via the passageway at the top of the stairs.
You will emerge onto a bridge. The bridge builder is dangling from the bridge. Your party will automatically save him. He asks if you could get someone with more brawn to help him. Someone in your party will suggest asking the Nu.
Backtrack through the cave and talk to the Nu. He will agree to help build the bridge.
The game will automatically take you to where you left the bridge builder. The Nu will help with the bridge but then demand food. Return to the Reptite village.
Take to the Reptite in the southwest portion of the map. He is the one who gave you the Lonely Soul quest (in which you fought the Nu). He will give you a Hearty Lunch.
Scale Mount Emerald and return to where the bridge builder is working. Talk to the bridge builder. The Nu will now request that you bring him another type of food (ungrateful!). He says he wants a yellow type of food that an old monster had long ago.
Climb back down Mount Emerald. Exit the Lost Sanctum. Warp to 65,000,000 B.C. Re-enter the Lost Sanctum.
Exit to the Great Southern Swamp. Head to the northeast portion of the screen. Once you get there, head left. You will encounter a Deathcreeper and two Kingfrogs. Defeat them to receive the Sweet Banana.
Exit the Lost Sanctum and warp back to 600 A.D.
Re-enter the Lost Sanctum. Make your way back up Mount Emerald to where the Nu is working on the bridge. Give the Nu the Sweet Banana. It will continue working on the bridge.
Tower of the Ancients
- Warp to 600 A.D. and enter the Lost Sanctum.
- Climb to the top of Mount Emerald. Return to where the bridge builder and Nu and working on the bridge. The Reptite will inform you that the bridge is completed.
- You will automatically be taken back to the Reptite cave. The Reptite will give you an item called Saurian Leathers. This is a new type of armor.
- Head left. A panicked Reptite will run into the cave. He says that he found an eerie tower on the other side of the newly constructed bridge. Your party will agree to investigate.
- NOTE: The Nu that helped build the bridge will have opened a shop in the southwest area of the cave. You can buy Potions from him if you wish.
- Climb to the top of Mount Emerald. Walk to the new bridge. Cross the bridge.
- When you get to the next bridge screen you will be forced to fight an Exile and Slate Imp. Defeat them with normal attacks and continue forward. Fight the Exile and two Pink Imps that attack. Exit to the next screen.
- Run forward and you will encounter two Bone Knights. Cast a massive magical attack like Lightning II to defeat them. Enter the tower to your left.
- Run forward. Save your game using the Save Point to the left of the stairs. Run up the stairs. Open the two treasure chests at the top to receive 50,000 gold and the Dinoblade (a weapon for Frog). Defeat or evade the two Bone Knights. Run up the stairs ahead to the next screen.
- Run to the right and up the next set of stairs.
- You will see an Exile with its back to you. You can either run by or fight him (if you choose to fight then you will face two Exiles and a Bone Knight). Exit via the doorway on your left.
- In this next room you will see an octopus creature (called a Soul Stalker) slowly patrolling the hall. Run past or fight it and run up the stairs to your right (if you fight it then you also must fight two Exiles).
- There is a Bone Knight patrolling this hall. Once again avoid or fight him and afterward exit through the doorway on the left.
- You will be in a candle lit hallway. Turn right and save your game. Now head left and exit via the doorway on the south wall.
- You will see three Bone Knights laying on the floor. You can avoid them if you wish by hugging the wall and heading to the right. Run up the next set of stairs.
- Another empty room. Exit via the doorway on your left.
- Two Bone Knights will be blocking your way. Run forward and fight them. Two Soul Stalkers will also join the fray. Afterward exit via the stairs on your right.
- Yet another empty room. Exit to your left.
- This room appears empty at first. Head right. About halfway through the room you will be ambushed by an enemy called a Deathguard. Use techs to turn him into worm food. Walk up the stairs to your right.
- In this next room you will see stairs directly ahead of you. There is also a carpeted hallway that extends to your right. Run to the right and fight the Deathguard, Soul Stalker, and Bone Knight that attack. Quickly take them out with magic. Continue to the right and open the chest you find to receive the Rusted Blade. Backtrack to the entrance of the room and head up the next set of stairs.
- Run to the left. You will be ambushed by another Deathguard and three Soul Stalkers. Use magic to eliminate them. Exit the room.
- Another uninhabited room. Exit up the stairs to the right.
- About halfway into this room you will be ambushed by two Deathguards. Use techs to defeat them. Exit to your left.
- You will enter a room that only contains a Save Point. Save your game. Proceed up the next set of stairs.
- Run forward and you will encounter this area's bosses, Master-at-Arms and Bladesman!
- Here are some tips on this battle:
- As you may expect, the Bladesman is weaker than his boss. He only uses physical attacks. He can, however, heal the Master-at-Arms, which makes him more of a threat. Take him out before the Master-at-Arms. Use powerful physical techs to quickly eliminate him. Be warned that he seems to actually take health from dark magic.
- The Master-at Arms is the real force behind this fight. He will counter almost everything with a technique called Tsubama Gaeshi. This translates to a body blow for physical attacks inflicted upon him and a magic spell (that hits all three party members) for all magical techs used against him.
- The Master-at-Arms also has some spells of his own. Holy Light is similar to Luminaire. Thunder is a lightning strike upon a single character. Whirlwind is a wind attack upon a single party member. Keep your party members' HP up with healing spells and/or items to counteract these spells.
- Another trick the Master-at-Arms has up his sleeve is his two stances - offensive and defensive. When he is in the defensive stance you want to hold off your attacks. This is because he will counter with an attack called Flash of Steel which can do around 200 HP in damage. Wait until the screen reads counterattack stance disengaged before resuming the fight.
- Other than the stances, the only other thing worth noting is that the Master-at-Arms seems immune to lightning based attacks (although he won't gain life). Aside from this, focus on him with powerful techs until you defeat him.
- After you defeat both foes, walk to your right. Enter the doorway you see on the north wall.
- You will witness a cut scene where you discover that the three Heavenly Idols are actually statues of your current party members. Afterward you will automatically return to the Reptite cave. The Reptite Elder will give you the Champion's Badge. It's an accessory for Frog that enhances the Masamune and halves MP costs.
- TIP: Go to the Reptite cave in 65,000,000 B.C. There is a Reptite in the northwest corner that will rerforge the Rusted Blade you discovered in the Tower of Ancients into the Icewyrm. This is a new weapon for Crono.
Guide to Sealed Chests and Doors
- YouTube: Sealed Treasure (Time: 10:58)
- There are a number of black sealed chests that litter 600 A.D. and 1,000 A.D. These can only be opened if you have charged Marle's pendant with the Mammon Machine during your first trip to 12,000 B.C.
- It is worth noting that some of these chests can be found in both time periods. You can upgrade the items in these particular chests. To do this you must first find the chest in 600 A.D. A light will flash and the game will ask if you want to remove the contents. Choose not to remove the contents. Now warp forward to 1,000 A.D. and find the same chest. Take the item this time. It will now be upgraded (for example, a Red Vest upgrades to Red Mail). Afterward you can go back to 600 A.D. and collect the original item if you wish.
- Here is a list of non-upgradeable (one-shot) chests that only appear in one time period:
- In 600 A.D., go to Guardia Forest. Make your way north as if you were going to Guardia Castle. Once you reach the path that leads to Guardia Castle, run to the right. There will be a chest at the end of the path with a Speed Capsule inside of it.
- In 600 A.D., go inside the Magic Cave that you traveled through to get to Magus's castle. Inside the first room of the cave will be a chest with a Magic Ring inside.
- Go to the blue pyramid (Forest Ruins) north of Medina Village circa 1,000 A.D. Walk to the pyramid and the pendant will automatically begin to shine. A Nu will appear and give you the choice to open one of two chests. The chest on the right contains a sword called a Swallow that Crono can use. The chest on the left is the Guardian Helm. This helm reduces physical attacks by 1/3. Choose whichever one you wish, but the Guardian Helm is probably the better choice since Crono will get even better swords than the Swallow later in the game.
- There is a chest in Heckran Cave circa 1,000 A.D. The best way to reach is to use the whirlpool near Lucca's House. This will transport you near the end of the cave. From where you appear, run south and proceed through the cave just as you did the first time (there are no monsters left to interfere). You will find the chest in the last room before you have to walk down into the water. The chest contains a Barrier Ring and Speed Ring.
- There is a chest in Guardia Forest near the portal that you used to escape the guards and first enter the Future. Unfortunately you cannot access it by foot. You must go to Bangor Dome in 2300 A.D. and use the portal there to warp to The End of Time. This opens a light bucket that you can use to warp to Guardia Forest, 1,000 A.D. Use this light bucket. Open the chest to find the Power Ring (+6 strength).
- Here is the list of upgradeable chests:
- Go to Truce Inn in 600 A.D. There is a chest upstairs. Follow the aforementioned steps about not removing its contents. Go to the Truce Inn in 1,000 A.D. Walk upstairs and collect the Blue Plate from the chest. This armor absorbs all water attacks.
- Go to Guardia Castle in 600 A.D. From the throne room, take the left hallway. Climb up the stairs. The third room you reach will contain a chest. Come back to the same room in 1,000 A.D. to collect the Red Plate from the chest. This plate absorbs all fire attacks.
- Go to the Elder's House in Porre Village circa 600 A.D. There will be two chests in the bedroom. Go to the Mayor's Manor at the same location in 1,000 A.D. Collect the Black and White Plates from the chests. The Black Plate absorbs shadow damage. The White Plate absorbs light damage.
- Check inside the ruins in Frog's Sidequest. Consult the appropriate section in The Fated Hour for more information.
- Here is the list of sealed doors you can open in The Future with the pendant.
- In the Arris Dome, climb down the ladder from where the inhabitants are standing. Once downstairs, go through the door on the right, near the shining control panel. Move through the room with the insects to the next room. You will enter the room where the robots are patrolling. Go to the northeast corner of this room to find a sealed door. Inside you will find a Luminous Robe (for the ladies), an Acuity Ring, and a Golden Earring.
- There is a sealed door in Bangor Dome. Inside are chests containing the Alluring Top (equip to Ayla to increase the success of Charm) and Workman's Wallet (turns experience into gold).
- There is a sealed door in Trann Dome. Inside you will find the very useful Gold Stud (reduces MP consumption by 75%) as well as a Magic Capsule on the ground.
Guide to Gemstones
- Silver Gemstone - Go to 65,000,000 B.C. after you have beaten Ocean Palace. Enter the Laruba Ruins. There will be a Nu in the ruins. Talk to him. He will offer to change your character's names. Bother him a second time and he will give you the Silver Gemstone. This activates the Spin Strike triple tech with Frog, Robo, and Ayla.
- Golden Gemstone - Note that the Golden Gemstone can only be obtained after Frog receives the upgrade Masamune during his sidequest in The Fated Hour. Go to 600 A.D. Put Frog as the leader of your party. Enter the Denadoro Mountains. Walk to the point where the Freelancer is throwing rocks at you from across the waterfall. Frog will catch one of the rocks. The rock turns out to be the Golden Gemstone. This stone evokes the triple tech Master Mune triple tech with Frog, Marle, and Robo.
- Blue Gemstone - You find it in the Giant's Claw. Consult the Dino Lair/Rainbow Shell sidequest listed under The Fated Hour chapter for more information. This gemstone invokes the triple tech Omega Flare with Lucca, Robo, and Magus.
- Black Gemstone - You find this in Kajar during your first two visits to 12,000 B.C. Note that you must find this stone before entering Ocean Palace. Consult the sub-section on Kajar under The Magic Kingdom chapter for more information. This gemstone invokes the triple tech Eternal Darkness between Marle, Lucca, and Magus.
- White Gemstone - You find this gemstone after defeating the Terra Mutant in the Black Omen. Check the nearby treasure chests. One of them will contain the gemstone. It invokes the triple tech Poyozo Dance with Marle, Luccca, and Ayla.
