Ocean Palace
- YouTube: The Ocean Palace! (Time: 10:23)
- Head south from where you materialized. Save the game with the save point you see to the right. Walk forward and talk to Mune. Enjoy the cut scene that follows. Exit the room when you regain control.
- Head south and engage the two winged Scouter creatures that patrol the area. Keep in mind that if you use non-Lightning magic against them then they will counter it with a mass electrical attack. Likewise any non-Lightning magical attacks will allow them to gain life. Attack with Lightning II to destroy them both. After defeating them open the chest to your right. You will receive the Rune Blade. Equip it to Frog.
- TIP: The same logic follows the other Scouters you will find in the area. They are always vulnerable to the magic that matches their color (red is vulnerable to fire, blue to water, white to light). Use the like colored magic and/or physical attacks to defeat them. If you hit them with any magic other than the type they are vulnerable to then they will counterattack with an elemental spell that hits all party members.
- TIP: Since elemental spells are so important to defeating enemies in this area of Ocean Palace, it is recommended that your group consist of Crono, Marle/Frog, and Lucca.
- Head back north to where you first entered the area. You will be backtracking to this room on several occasions for the next little bit, so to avoid confusion this large room will be referred to as the Central Hub. Head along the walkway that extends to your right. Enter the doorway at its end.
- YouTube: Still in the Ocean Palace (Time: 10:52)
- You will enter a small room. There will be a blue button on the ground at the room's center. Press the button. A Djinn and Ghul will appear and attack. Destroy the Ghul first for the Djinn will be protected by its shield. Exit through the door on the lower right side of the screen.
- You will emerge into another small room with two Red Scouters standing guard. Run to the middle of the room and you will be attacked by the two Red Scouters as well as a Zealot Mage. Try to cast Fire II if you have Lucca in your party before the Zealot Mage can lock out her tech abilities. If he does so, then you will have to defeat them with physical attacks. Open the chest in this room to obtain the Aeonian Helm. Exit the room via the doorway on your left.
- You will be back at the Central Hub. Ignore the Red Scouters to the northwest (unless you just want to fight them). Instead, take the pathway to your southwest. Open the treasure chest you pass to collect the Aeonian Suit. Continue heading south and enter the doorway at the end of the path.
- Fight or avoid the two Blue Scouters patrolling the area. Use Water based spells to defeat them. Exit the room via the doorway to the south.
- You will see a platform to your south that holds a Blue and Red Scouter. First collect the Kaiser Arm from the treasure chest to your immediate left. Equip it to Robo. Now head south and engage the Scouters. A Zealot Mage will also appear. Use individual magic attacks of the correct color to destroy the Scouters.
- Now head west, along the walkway. Press the blue switch you find in the floor. A light will flash on the screen and you will hear something move. Continue along the walkway to the next large platform.
- Head south and fight the two Scouters (blue and red) and the Zealot Mage. Collect the Sonic Bow from the treasure chest. Equip it to Marle.
- Backtrack to the Central Hub.
- Make your way around the demon statue you see to your left. You may be attacked by two Scouters patrolling the area. Defeat them with Lightning II. Continue to the left of the statue. Once you get to the path, head north. Follow the path around to the next large platform.
- Try to leave this platform and you will be attacked by a Zealot Mage and two Scouters. Note that the Mage can lock out the tech commands of individual party members. Try to cast Lightning II before he can do this to Crono. Walk through the doorway to your southwest (lower left).
- Defeat or avoid the two Scouters patrolling this room. Collect the Shockwave weapon for Lucca from the nearby treasure chest. Head south to the next room.
- You will recognize this room from earlier. Run to the left along the narrow walkway. This will take you around the perimeter of the room. Eventually you will see a small room to your right with a treasure chest inside of it. You seemingly cannot reach the chest. Check the wall for a secret passage into the room (if you look closely you will see the outline of a doorway). Inside the chest is the Demonslayer sword for Frog (this has the same attack strength as the Rune Sword but does x2 damage to magical beings. The trade off is that you do not get the +4 magic from the Run Sword if you equip the Demonslayer. My recommendation, however, is to go with the Demonslayer).
- Backtrack to the Central Hub.
- Head north along the walkway to the immediate right of the female statue. You will encounter three Blue Scouters. Cast Water spells to defeat them. Run across the walkway that extends from the left of the platform into the next room.
- Attack and defeat the Zealot Mage and two Blue Scouters. Use Water II or Ice II if you have Frog or Marle in your party. Collect Empyrean Blade from the treasure chest. Equip it to Crono. Exit via the doorway to your northeast (upper right).
- Walk to the center of the room and press the blue switch. Defeat the Djinn and Ghul that appear using the same techniques as before. Exit via the doorway to your southeast (lower right).
- You are now back in the Central Hub, just north of where you defeated the three Blue Scouters. Head all the way to the south of the room. Exit the room via the doorway with the two columns on either side (it is located on the path to the left of the demon statue).
- Defeat the two Scouters (red and blue) and the Monk that appears. Walk down the stairs to your left.
- Walk to the center of the platform at the bottom of the stairs. You will be ambushed by two Monks and two Zealot Mages. Quickly try to cast a mass magical attack like Lightning II before any of your characters get their abilities locked out by the mages. This won't kill any of them, but they will be significantly weakened. Your next step is to take out the Monks. If both of them are alive they can perform a whirlwind combo attack against you which causes Confuse. After you defeat them, head south and down the next set of stairs.
- You will see four Monks on the stairs ahead. Try to run underneath them as they jump. Each one you touch you will have to fight once you get to the area below.
- Run to the center of the platform. Defeat any Monks that you provoked. Now head south and walk down the next set of stairs.
- Once you reach the next platform you will see several Monks scampering across the room, from right to left. The statue to your left can also breathe fire at you if you go too far into the room. This will deal damage if it hits you. Try to run across the room without touching any of the Monks. This is a difficult task and more than likely you will have to face all four Monks at once. If you have a triple tech that affects all enemies than this is the time to use it. Otherwise use single and double techs to eliminate one enemy at a time. Only attack with a mass effect spell like Fire II or Lightning II if you are confidant it will kill all the Monks at once. Otherwise you face multiple whirlwind counterattacks. Once you defeat them, run south and proceed down the next set of stairs.
- Run across the platform. You will be ambushed by a creature that spawns four Monks. Use the above strategy to defeat them. Head south and proceed down the next set of stairs. As you walk down the stairs you will encounter Masa. Watch the cut scene that follows.
- Continue down the stairs. The room at the bottom contains a Save Point. A Djinn and Ghul will also follow you around the room. If they hit you then you must fight them. Either avoid them or fight them. Either way be sure to save your game and use a Shelter (if necessary) before you exit the room via the doorway to the south.
- You will now be in a large metallic area. Walk south, to the center of the platform. You will be attacked by a Zealot Mage and a group of Scouters (two white, two blue). Try to kill the Mage first with a powerful tech before he can lock out any of your party members' abilities. Next cast Lightning and Water to eliminate the Scouters, one at a time. When you are finished, activate the lift via the glowing control panel on your left.
- As the lift descends, you will be attacked by three groups of enemies. They are as follows:
- Three Monks, a Ghul, and a Djinn - if you have a super powerful magical attack like Crono's Luminaire, then use it to destroy all the Monks at once. If not, then concentrate on the Djinn/Ghul and then turn to the Monks. Keep in mind that second level magic like Lightning II, Fire II, or Water II will not kill the Monks immediately. This means you will face multiple counterattacks.
- Two Monks, two Zealot Mages, and a Scouter (white) - if you don't have Luminaire, then eliminate the Mages first with techs. Next focus on the Monks and then the Scouter.
- You will face six Scouters, two of each color. DO NOT use any magical attacks that hit all of them. You will most likely die from their counterattacks if this occurs. Focus on eliminating them one at a time with magic that hits a single target and/or physical attacks.
- Once you have beaten this last group the lift will stop. Exit via the doorway to your north.
- Run forward and hit the blue switch ahead of you. Now run around the pool of lava to your left. Enter the door at the end of the path.
- Engage the Scouter (white). It will morph into a total of three Scounters, one of each color. Take each one out with the corresponding magical spell. Hit the switch behind where they were flying.
- Backtrack to the previous room. Now head along the pathway to the right. Walk through the door at the end of the path.
- This room will be an exact duplicate of the last one. Defeat the three Scouters and then hit the switch behind them. Return to the previous room.
- Walk back and press the blue switch at the entrance of the room. This causes a bridge to appear ahead of you. Run across the bridge to the other side and enter the door at its end.
- Continue north once you get to the next room. You will eventually see a Save Point on your left. Take the Elixir from the treasure chest on the right. Use a Shelter and save your game. Enter the door ahead.
- TIP: At this point you will want to equip Crono with the White Plate.
- Walk forward into the room. You will encounter Dalton. He will call forth the Golem Sisters.
Boss - Golem Sisters
- YouTube: A fallen comrade! (Time: 10:47)
- This pair of Golems feature the same copycat abilities as the one you fought at Zeal Palace. This time, however, you do not have the luxury of losing the battle.
- The pair will begin the fight by using Iron Sphere (which halves a single party member's HP). They will often follow this up by shooting fireballs at a single party member. This will more than likely fell the party member they target (provided he or she does have some sort of physical damage protection).
- You want to prevent them from using the aforementioned physical attacks. Therefore do not attack them with a physical attack. If you do so they will keep using the Iron Sphere/Fireball combo.
- Attack them with Chrono's Luminaire as soon as possible. They will copy this ability and begin using a massive light attack against you that hits all party members (dealing about 100-130 to each member). While you will suffer damage, it is a more ideal situation than facing their physical attacks.
- Keep using Luminaire to damage them and they will keep using the light attack against you. Crono will gain HP every time they use it since he is wearing the White Plate. In this situation Crono becomes unkillable. Be patient and they will go down after a few hits with Luminaire.
- As they die, both will copy Dalton and cast a dark cloud attack. This deals about 160 HP in total. This shouldn't be much of a nuisance since Crono will more than likely be at full health.
The Mammon Machine
- Head north and exit the room.
- Run forward in this new room until you encounter a Nu in you path. Talk to it and it will run away. Continue forward until you reach the Queen and her entourage.
- At this point the computer will take control. Crono will use the Red Knife on the Mammon Machine. It is revealed that the Red Knife is actually the Masamune.
Boss - Lavos
- YouTube: The Blackbird! (Time: 10:42)
- When you regain control your party will be face to face with Lavos.
- It is extremely unlikely that you can beat Lavos at this point in the game (assuming this is your first time through). Lavos will almost immediately rain fire upon your party, which does upwards of 800 HP in damage to each member. Most likely this initial onslaught will render everyone unconscious. Do not worry for this is supposed to happen.
- Watch as the Prophet appears. He reveals himself to be Magus in disguise. Magus attempts to defeat Lavos, but is struck down.
- Eventually the computer will return control of Crono to you. Run forward to Lavos's mouth and press A. Crono will be destroyed, but this gives time for Schala to teleport Magus and your remaining party members to safety.
- Watch as Lavos emerges and destroys Zeal's kingdom.
Aftermath
- Your party members will awaken in an Elder's home. The Elder arrives and gives you Marle's pendant.
- TIP: At this point the game will give you the option of forming a new party (minus Crono of course). It is recommended that you include Ayla in this party. The reason for this choice will soon become apparent.
- Save your game and exit the house.
- You will be in the overworld. Visit the remaining two huts of the Surviving Village. There is a Nu in the middle hut that will sell you Potions.
- Exit to the overworld when you are finished. Walk to the forest area and enter the Village Commons.
The New King - 12,000 B.C.
- Your party will awaken in a cell. All of your weapons, money, and items will be gone. Additionally you will be unable to change party members.
- Save your game using the Save Point to your left.
- Climb up the ladder in your cell. You will discover that you are on the Blackbird airship. Return to your cell.
- At this point one of your party members will notice that you can climb through a grate. Walk to the pylons to the left of the ladder and press A. Your party will jump up into the air ducts.
- TIP: While in the air ducts you can spy on the enemies through the grates on the floor. You may want to do this to see what you will be facing.
- NOTE: There are several ladders that you can use to climb down and fight the guards. However, until you reclaim your weapons, you won't be able to attack. The only exception is if you have Ayla in your party. If you followed the aforementioned advice and included her, she will be able to attack and defeat the guards (because she uses her hands) while the other party members hold back.
- From where you climbed up, turn right. Walk to the end of the hall, then head north. Walk to the end of the hall and then turn left. Keep walking forward and then go north at the first opportunity. Take your second left. Walk down the hall until you see a grate in the floor. Look through the grate. You will see a sleeping guard. Climb down the nearby ladder.
- You will now be in the room with the sleeping guard. Walk over to the treasure chest and open it. You will recover your lead party member's equipment. Wake the guard up and punish him for his incompetence. Climb back up the ladder.
- Retrace your steps to the ladder you used to escape your cell. From that ladder, head left to the end of the hall. Now head south. Take your first left. Walk all the way to the end of the hall and climb down the ladder.
- You will see two guards below you guarding a chest. Defeat the guards. Collect the third party member's equipment from the chest. Exit through the door (not the air ducts).
- You will be in a hallway. You will see a Byte patrolling the hall. Either avoid it or engage it. Either way walk to your right and then head north along the conveyor belt.
- When you get to the end of the conveyor belt, turn left. Avoid or fight the Byte if it is nearby. You will see a door up ahead. Enter the door.
- You will be in a room that contains three guards surrounding a chest. Engage the guards. Defeat them and open the chest to reclaim your money. Exit back to the hallway.
- YouTube: I can't Believe i got lost easily! (Time: 10:57)
- From the door, head left and then turn north. Run north until you see another door ahead. Don't bother entering this door. Instead, head to your right. Keep moving right and you will eventually see two guards in front of a door. Defeat the guards and enter the door.
- You will be in a small room. Standing between you and a treasure chest will be a Byte. Defeat the Byte. Open the chest to collect your second party member's equipment. At this point you will have reclaimed all your characters' weapons and armor. Exit back to the hallway.
- Turn left and head up the conveyor belt that leads north. Fight the two guards on the other side of the conveyor belt. Enter the door they were guarding.
- You will enter another hallway. There will be two guards directly ahead of you. Engage and defeat them. There will be doors on both your left and right hand sides. Enter the door on your left.
- A Byte will set off its alarm. Defeat the two guards and the Byte. Afterward, collect your party's inventory from the treasure chest on the right side of the room. You should now have all your possessions returned to you, save one - the Epoch. Exit through the door on the north side of this room.
- Climb up the ladder ahead. You will be on one of the Blackbird's wings. Head left. The wind will automatically try to push you down, but you can counteract this by pushing up on the D-pad.
- 'TIP: You will see a number of turrets on the Blackbird's wing. It is recommended that you fight these, since they are worth 1500 experience points and 100 tech points. You must do it fast, however, since they lock out your tech abilities and will self-destruct after awhile (leaving you with no experience or tech points). Try to avoid fighting more than one at a time since they are hard to hit and you will probably not defeat all of them as it is.
- Head all the way to the lower left corner of the Blackbird's wing. When this occurs the Golem Overlord will appear. Get ready to fight! Sort of.
Boss - Golem Overlord
- YouTube: The Time Machine has Wings! (Time: 10:56)
- This boss is a joke - literally. Ignore his countdown. He will be unable to attack due to his fear of heights. Just wail on him mercilessly until you defeat him.
- TIP: Use your double techs do deal as much damage to him as you can. If he runs away you will receive no experience points for your trouble.
Boss - King Dalton
- Watch the cut scene. You will see that Dalton has placed wings on the Epoch. He flies the Epoch out of its hangar and begins to attack. Your party leaps on top of the ship and the battle commences!
- Dalton will attack with Iron Sphere and the Golems' fireball attack - both of which you should be intimately familiar with by now. Cast Protect if Lucca is in your party or simply use a Shield Sphere on all three characters. Both will lessen the effects of his fireballs.
- If you attack him with magic he will counterattack with a spell of the opposite polarity (for example if you attack him with Fire II he will respond with Ice II).
- Keep using physical tech attacks on Dalton while keeping up your party's health. It doesn't take a lot to beat him.
- After you deal him enough damage he will open a black hole and call upon the Golem Overlord. Luckily since you defeated/scare away the Overlord, the portal instead sucks Dalton in to his demise.
- Your characters now regain control of the Epoch. Press the buttons the other characters command you to push. You will use the Epoch's weapons to destroy the Blackbird. Huzzah!
The New King (cont'd.)
- After you've downed the Blackbird, your party will land the Epoch by the Surviving Village.
- Walk over to the Elder's Hut and save your game.
- Now head over to the middle hut and talk to the Nu. He will now sell weapons in addition to Potions. Once you are done buying items, exit the hut.
- Walk around the mountain and enter the North Cape on the other side.
- Run forward to the end of the cape. You will see a blue crystal. Magus will soon appear. He reveals to you his back story and intentions. You also discover how and why Magus and the three Gurus (Melchior, Gaspar, and Belthasar) wound up in alternate time periods. Eventually he will ask whether you want to fight him.
- YouTube: Magus is defeated! The Black Omen Appears! (Time: 10:09)
- IMPORTANT: This is an important decision. If you answer "no" then Magus will join your party. It is highly recommended that you allow him to join your party. He is a powerful spell caster with many neat abilities. If you wish, however, you may also fight him. If Frog is a member of your party then it will be a one-on-one battle. If not, then all three party members will face him together.
- TIP: If you decide to fight Magus, then expect him to use the same attacks as your previous encounter in 600 A.D. These will not be as effective since your party members are more powerful. Rail on him with double techs while keeping your health up and he should go down fairly easily. If you are going it along with Frog, then use Aerial Strike to attack and Cure II to heal.
- NOTE ABOUT THIS WALKTHROUGH: The rest of this walkthrough assumes that you accepted Magus as a playable character.
- If you decided not to fight Magus, then he will turn and simply look out over the horizon. Try to leave the area. Magus will stop you before you can leave and join your party.
- Exit to the overworld. Pay the Nu a visit at the Surviving Village. Buy the Headman's Scythe (an upgrade for Magus). Enter the Epoch.
- Watch the cut scene. It shows the Black Omen appear in the sky.
- Take the Epoch to The End of Time.
