Chrono Cross is an RPG that was released on the PlayStation in 2000. It's also the sequel to the classic Super Nintendo RPG Chrono Trigger.

Story
The protagonist is Serge, who is thrust into a parallel world where he died under mysterious circumstances over a decade ago. He teams up with Kid, and sets out in search of the mysterious Frozen Flame, an artifact that lets the holder reshape time and space. Lynx, a regal man-cat is also looking for the Frozen Flame for his own purposes and will stop at nothing to prevent Serge from getting to it first. Serge will find himself thrust into an adventure that ultimately reveals his heritage and his destiny.
Gameplay
The "active time bar" has been replaced with a bar of seven stamina points. While it's still technically turn-based, any character can take a turn at any time as long as they have at least a single stamina point remaining. Enemies can even interrupt your characters' attacks. Party members can unleash different types of attacks (weak, medium, and strong), which require one, two, and three stamina points. Even though the game pauses, the ability to start and end a character's turn whenever you please makes for a pseudo "real-time" experience. There are also no random battles and you can escape from every battle, even boss battles. The magic system is different from other RPGs especially with the addition of the color field. The color field keeps track of the color of the last three spells and if the field is a single color it will be a boost to all those that have that color affinity. The colors are: black and white, red and blue, yellow and green. Each character has a color alignment which determines their elemental affinity.
