The Christy's Crown series of hats was established in 1773 by Christy Miller. This series of hats was established under the brand “the House of Christy”. The original premises were a small shop off Gracechurch Street in the city of London. Miller Christy was a Quaker and insisted that his hats were designed to the highest of standards. Due to the quality the reputation of Christy’s grew and trade for the company increased considerably. The company started to get orders from overseas from countries like the United States.

Christy’s is the only “hat manufacturer” in the world that still adopts eighteenth century techniques when making hats. The Christy’s manufacturing method is very labor intensive and the company has steadfastly refused to replace some of the labor with mechanised methods. There are forty five operations involved start to finish in the manufacture of Christy’s hats.
