Christy Martin's media attention was at an all time high when she received a bloody nose in 1996 from her opponent, Deidre Gogarty. While Martin won the match and was named the Women's Lightweight Champion of the World by the World Boxing Council, Martin's bloody nose was watched in an estimated 30 million homes worldwide. The bloodied image of Martin gave a new kind of recognition to women's boxing as a much tougher sport than previously thought.[Official Site: http://www.christymartin.com/bio/index.html Christy Martin Bio]Quotes
