Career
Christopher Paolini began Eragon as a personal challenge following his graduation from home-schooled high school at the age of fifteen. He took two years to write and edit the book, and his parents took another year preparing the book for its eventual publication in 2002. The step-son of mystery and humor writer Carl Hiaasen discovered the book and brought it to the attention of his father, who in turn introduced it to his editor. Alfred Knopf released a traditionally published edition of the book in 2003, and agreed to publish the second and third volumes of the Inheritance Series. After publicizing the third book, Brisingr, Paolini said he plans to "take a long vacation."
