  • Brief Biography

    Hitchens began his writing career as a left-wing journalist for the New Statesman in the 1970s, and then moved to The Nation in 1981. In the 1990s, Hitchens began writing a series of biographies in which he harshly criticized his subjects, among them Mother Teresa, Bill Clinton, and Henry Kissinger. In 2001, Hitchens became a vocal opponent of radical Islam, and supported the War on Terror and later, the 2003 invasion of Iraq. In 2007, Hitchens published the bestselling book God Is Not Great which advocates atheism and humanism. Hitchens has referred to "all religious belief" as "sinister and infantile."
