Waltz said Tarantino was searching for authentic German actors to play in the film, rather than actors having to wear "contact lenses" for the role. His agent sent him a script and he was called to audition.
Before this breakout American role, Christopher Waltz was already an established television and film actor in Germany. Christopher Waltz admitted that at first, he really didn't 'get it' (the character of Col.
