Many Christmas plays for church will centralize around the Nativity story and the birth of the Christ child, while others will explore the theme of drawing lost souls back to the church through Christmas miracles.

In the year 1223 St. Francis of Assisi combined interactive theatre with Christmas carols and created the earliest Nativity plays.
