Blending of Traditions
Many western traditions influenced Filipino Christmas celebrations. Images of Christmas trees and Santa Claus are popular, and it is customary to send cards and sing Christmas Carols as well. Attending the rooster's mass, known as Simbang Gabi, every morning for the nine days preceding Christmas is a tradition which was borrowed from Spain, as was the Noche Buena celebration that follows midnight mass on Christmas Eve. During Noche Buena celebrations, which last until around six o'clock in the morning on Christmas Day, the streets are well lit and children play together outside. Children may also be asked to perform talent shows to entertain their families.SEAsite: Philippine Christmas
