For many who celebrate Christmas in the northern hemisphere, the holiday season is often colder, and in some places there may even be snow. This isn't the case for countries in the southern hemisphere, like Australia and New Zealand. Christmas falls right in the middle of their summer months. This eventually led to the Australian tradition of celebrating Christmas in July.
The Origin of Christmas in July
No one has been able to pinpoint the exact origin of Christmas in July, however there is a story that begins in the Blue Mountains of Australia. A group of Irish tourists traveled to the Blue Mountains in the summer and upon seeing the snow felt inspired to convince the owner of the resort to host a Christmas in July celebration. It was such a success that afterwards the resort owner continued it as a tradition. The Holiday Spot: Christmas in July
