World's Largest Floating Christmas Tree
Each year in Brazil's largest city, Rio de Janeiro, a giant Christmas tree is lit in the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. In 2008, the lit tree was 279 feet high—a Guinness World Record for the largest floating Christmas tree in the world. The event is considered the third most popular in Rio, behind Carnival and New Year's Eve celebrations. The tree remained up until Epiphany on January 6, 2009.WCTV.com (Tallahassee): Lighting of Floating Christmas Tree in Brazil (November 30, 2008)
