The Christmas tree is a great temptation for the cat in your family. They are attracted to the glitter of tinsel, ornaments and lights. Prepare your home to make the holidays safe for your pet, so that even your cats can have a merry Christmas.
Christmas Cat Safety
Your family cat enjoys the new sights and smells associated with the Christmas holiday, but they can be a danger to your pet. Poinsettias, mistletoe and holly are a danger to your pet if eaten. Tinsel and ribbon can cause choking. Dropped needles and the water in the tree reservoir may harm your pet if ingested. Many cat owners prefer an artificial Christmas tree to remove some of the risks involved with a live tree. Cats are also agile climbers and will attempt to climb the tree, so be sure to secure the tree well.NoelNoelNoel: Cat Holiday Safety
A possible way to keep your cat from the tree was suggested in an article in the Toronto Sun. They recommend surrounding a location with sticky tape ahead of tree trimming time, to see if the tape will deter and train the cat not to enter that area.Toronto Sun: Christmas Tree Cat-astrophe (November 30, 2008)
