Former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman was the head of the Environmental Protection Agency during the September 11th attacks.
Political Career
Whitman worked on the political campaign of Nelson Rockefeller after she earned her Bachelor's degree in government. She was President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities before an unsuccessful campaign for election to the U.S. Senate in 1990 (which she lost to Bill Bradley). Three years later, she was elected Governor. Whitman was re-elected in 1997 and appointed Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in 2001. She resigned from the position in 2003.
