Christian Dior Profile
- Christian Dior was born and raised in Normandy, France and moved with his family to Paris when he was ten years old. Dior studied political science, before serving in the military and it wasn't until 1935 that his design career began. Dior started selling his sketches when he returned to Paris and was hired by the designer Robert Piguet in 1938. In 1941, after his military stretch during World War II, Dior went to work for Lucien Lelong at a large design house. With the backing of textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac, Dior opened his own fashion house in 1946.
- Dior and his partner Jacques Rouet, were pioneers in establishing license agreements in the fashion business. By 1948, Dior had established lucrative licensing deals for fur, stockings, and perfumes, which helped to make Christian Dior a household name. Christian Dior died in 1957 and only designed under his own name for a decade.Met Museum: Christian Dior Profile
