  • History

    In 1871, the Institute of the Brothers of Christian Schools, a Roman Catholic religious teaching congregation, was requested by the city of Memphis to open a school.

    CBU started as a combined elementary school, high school and college, but would become a four-year institution in 1953. It opened its doors to both sexes in 1970 and today more than half of the student body is made up of women.CBU: History

    CBU is located on a 75-acre wooded campus in midtown Memphis, Tennessee and is about four miles east of the downtown area.
