Chris Ray is a right-handed pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. After graduating from Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Fl, The Orioles drafted Ray in the 3rd round of the 2003 amateur draft. Ray enjoyed a rapid ascent to the majors, making his debut against the Houston Astros on June 14, 2005. After B.J. Ryan left the Orioles as a free agent to join the Toronto Blue Jays in 2006, the Orioles named Ray their new closer. Ray was forced to undergo Tommy John Surgery in March of 2008, causing him to spend the season on the DL.
Strengths
Ray throw three effective pitches, a fastball, a slider, and a splitter. He also responds well under pressure, a desirable trait for a closer[1].
Weaknesses
Although crafty and effective, Ray does not dominate batters the way many closers are expected[1].
