  • Career Highlights

    Prior to his NHL days, Kunitz attended and played for Ferris State University, starting in 1999. During his senior year, Kunitz signed as an undrafted free agent with the Anaheim Ducks on April 1, 2003. He joined the Ducks for his NHL debut later that year, splitting his playing time between the Ducks and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.

    On October 4, 2005, Kunitz was claimed off of waivers by the Atlanta Thrashers. Just two weeks later he was re-claimed by the Ducks, on October 18, 2005. His next season with the Ducks, Kunitz helped the team win their first Stanley Cup Championship in 2007. Kunitz also represented Team Canada in the 2008 World Ice Hockey Championships.

    Kunitz, along with minor-league prospect Eric Tangradi, were traded from the Anaheim Ducks to the Penguins on February 26, 2009, in exchange for Ryan Whitney.NHL.com: Penguins Deal Whitney to Ducks for Kunitz, Prospect
