The Chow Chow is an ancient breed of dog from Chinese origin. Originally used in hunting and herding, today the chow chow is considered a great companion pet. The straight hind legs cause the Chow Chow to walk as if they are on stilts.
These are strong-willed animals who can sometimes be very difficult to train with out a lot of positive feedback and firm commands. Living with a Chow Chow
Chow Chow are mild-mannered dogs who are able to live in a large, spacious home or in small spaces, as long as they get plenty of exercise. They can be lazy, so they must be taken on daily walks. Most breeds of chow chows are willing to learn and can be introduced to other animals as well as children. While they sometimes appear introverted, with a little help, Chow Chows can become extremely social dogs. In order to remain in control of your Chow Chow, you have to be a dominant master who keep a strong hold on the behavior of your dog. If you are easily upset or overly emotional, this may not be the best breed of dog for you.
The hair on the Chow Chow is long and thick. It can become matted, if it is not cleaned and brushed on a regular basis, so - a grooming schedule is a must.
