Hybrid cutlery is not a new phenomenon. The
Spork, which is a combination fork and
spoon, is a an excellent example of a hybrid utensil and has been around since the
1800's. The chork, however, is a new hybrid which combines the traits of the fork and the chopstick. Technically, the utensil is considered a training chopstick, since the operation and practice is similar to chopsticks. The features and advantages of the unique piece of cutlery is the especially pointed tips, which can be used like a fork, and the joined bottom, which makes clasping
food easier than traditional chopsticks. Since a chork differs only slightly than standard chopsticks in it's practice, the device has not achieved commercial success, and is still considered a novelty. Laura Rittenhouse Studio Furniture, however, has released a model which serves not only as a practical utensil, but also as a decorative piece of
tableware.
